Stop autoplaying videos on the Yahoo News home page
I see a lot of complaints about videos autoplaying when news articles are opened. That's annoying because it is unnessarily chewing up bandwidth. Recently when I first go to the Yahoo news home page, a video autoplays on the upper right side of the screen. I find this extremely annoying. I've used Yahoo News as my primary online news source for at least 12 years and now I think I need to look at less intrusive alternatives.

I can speak to this...no he/she can't. I can't even see the ad to mute it in most cases

I had been blocking Adobe Flash on Yahoo News via "page info/permissions" but now that no longer works for some reason, and the video just starts playing anyway. Now I'm not referring to video ads, but video news. If I click on news story I want to READ the article. Why force video down my throat. Just leave a triangle button to click on in case someone wants to play the video, but give people the choice.
Google News here I come. -

I used to enjoy the world news where I could click on different regions of the world and get some region related news. That's gone. Videos that are auto playing on the main page are not necessary. Just slowing everything down. Not everyone has a T1 connection. Whoever is in charge of all these changes should be removed from decision making. You are about to lose me to another website. MSN is starting to look really good.

You're joking, right. An ad plays before just about EVERY news story.

I have to pay for every byte downloaded on a satellite connection. Nothing ****** me off more than a video that auto-downloads that I did not give permission for. That means that I have to PAY for them to play a commercial that I didnt even want in the first place. This costs ME real money each month! At this point I am ready to delete my yahoo account and go back to google.
TURN OFF AUTO PLAY and AUTO DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's literally ALL the ads, come on now. Autoplay is the worst thing.

Yahoo-you know what ads we are seeing. This is a ridiculous question.

Do stop the automatic health video ads that are hidden well below the page. Are they digesting my gigabyte allowance...I assume so. I guarantee that I would never use that service or whatever it is.
So the ad campaign is a complete failure. -

Which ads?! Are they joking? Okay everyone it's time to block ALL of their ads AS well as their automatically playing Yahoo preferred news videos.
1) Block all Yahoo non-moving ads that pose as real articles that say in hard to read light grey colored texted "sponsored" by using free plugin "Ad Block Plus" and tweaking it's preferences to block every got darn ad on Yahoo.
ABP also lets you block pictures that are offensive. Right click and block the "image" of any ad sponsored by light blue triangle logo "AdChoices".
2) And to further financially punish Yahoo for selling out to branded celebrities and products, stop Yahoo's preferred "Must Watch" automatic playing videos with free "Flash Block Plus." browser add-on/plugin. No more automatic play in the background. Bye-Bye.
Make Yahoo News a pleasurable experience again.
ISSUES?: If you are having issues installing browser plugins then you have a virus. This happened to me all of sudden my Yahoo turned into times square.
1) Make sure your system is up to date, Open Start menu search for "Windows Update". Expect 30-45 mins and a system restart.
2) Install and run anti-virus program. Expect 30-45mins for it to check all system files for viruses. MAKE SURE YOUR BROWSER IS CLOSED OR THE VIRUS CAN"T BE REMOVED and you'll have to blow another 30mins to run/remove again.
3) Quarantine or remove all viruses by checking boxes or some act other than "ignore".
4) Restart your computer.
5) Tweak your browser plugins. I had to right click on an ad to switch ABP back on.
Done and Gosh Darn You AdChoices.

I agree completely on this. It is extremely annoying. Not only that but the auto-playing of ads before you can watch a new story if you do decide to actually watch a video is INCREDIBLY frustrating. Making me sit through up to a half a minute worth of loud obnoxious commercials is not acceptable. I simply close the page and move on frustrated that I didn't get to watch or read the story that I wanted to.

I have been using Yahoo! forever as my home page. But this new deal with the sound coming on suddenly is totally unacceptable. I play music from Sirius over the Inet and DON'T want to hear an ad. If this is not fixed, I will find a (quiet) new home page.

No, we're not giving you that information. Just fix the stupid people who decided the old format wasn't good enough for you. The older format does not cause Firefox to crash because of all the running scripts. Why should we give you that feedback when you didn't ask us about whether we even wanted the new formats?

I have resorted to disabling JavaScript in order to read Yahoo pages because the autoplay videos are so annoying. Unfortunately for Yahoo I suspect this disables a lot of their ads.

You're KIDDING right? What do you mean you have no idea which ads and "infomericals disguised as news videos" are automatically played? Just stop the damned things please... If I want to listen to an ad on an infomercial, I'll click on it.

Please stop ALL auto play videos. This includes ads and news videos. I can't even read an article (which I prefer) before a video starts up, then while trying to read comments the article moves to the next one. Some ads start playing and I can't even find them to try and shut them down. I also miss the old home page, liked the Dow report in plain view. I also hate having to click two or three times to read a whole article. I have tried to like your new format but I have lost my patience.

I concur. This needs to stop or I'll stop using Yahoo. I've been a Yahoo user since it's inception. It's the only search engine I use. Please stop the bandwidth chocking videos!!!

I used to love coming to read Yahoo News, but it's very disruptive to have videos with sound auto play ever time I visit the site. So I resist coming back now, and just drop in from time to time to see if that is still happening.
It's incredibly annoying and distracting.

Yahoo, please stop with the "WILL MAKE YOUR JAW DROP" ****. I realize you are all in the 7th grade there but the rest of us are over 13 and don't think someone's dress or bad photoshopping is going make our draw drop. It's bad enough you have to have one ad per article in this POS website now but do we have to be insulted on top?
