fractional defense yards allowed
Like ESPN, Yahoo should have a fractional option for defensive yards allowed...simple as that. A lot of people don't like tier defensive points and go to ESPN because of it but I really want to stay with Yahoo.

This is a huge improvement. I do a system on ESPN where I start with 12.5 defensive points and each point against docks -0.25, while each yard against is -0.02. It creates a smooth scoring curve instead of having dumb scoring bins.

ESPN does it and it's a far superior option to having point bins. For example, I like to do a system where each person starts with 12.5 points and has -0.25 per point scored against, and -0.02 per yard scored against. This creates a smooth scoring curve instead of having arbitrary point bins that don't make any sense
Additionally, having 1 point awarded for fumbles forced and 1 point awarded for fumbles recovered also helps reward defenses that cause fumbles, which is more consistent than recovery.

This is a no brainer change to scoring. Football is a game of inches and Yahoo is forcing us into a tiered approach. I don't think the coding can be that difficult.

This would be a huge improvement for the leagues I commission. The actual difference between 299 yards and 300 yards is virtually nothing, but makes a huge fantasy points impact. I also want fractional points to apply to Points Allowed.

Decimal scoring should not just be allowed, it should be the preferred scoring system for DEFs.
Decimal scoring should also be the preferred scoring system for FGs. -

This is your biggest complaint?
Form or join an IDP league.

Yes, this idea is an improvement.
And, using an equation should be a way to shorten (simplify) the computer code for the game instead of having to program in so many categories of scoring. -

I completely agree. I just posted a similar complaint/request.
ESPN has this functionality, so I feel confident in Yahoo!'s ability to implement a similar setting. I just hope they do it by next season...

On Thursday, September 18th 2014, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense gave up 50 points to the Atlanta Falcons. In default Yahoo settings, they were only penalized -4 fantasy points. In my custom league, I set it so that defenses who allowed 35+ points were penalized -8 instead of the default -4. However, this is still too little, considering how badly Tampa Bay played.
My Suggestion:
Defenses start out with 10 fantasy points for zero points allowed. Every time they allow a point, they are subtracted 0.5 fantasy points, so a touchdown with an extra point kick would lead to (7x0.5) = -3.5 fantasy points, or 6.5 fantasy points total for giving up 7 points. Once a defense gives up 20 points, they are at the point where they receive 0 fantasy points, and every point after that, will result in -0.5 fantasy points. In this setting, Tampa Bay defense would have received -15 fantasy points for giving up 50 points to the Falcons last night. With their sacks, turnovers, and TDs (1+2+6+6=15), they would have ended up with an overal score of 0 fantasy points for their performance last night.
I wish Yahoo would allow commissioners to implement settings like this. I think this is the most fair.
