Ability to modify number of votes to veto is ridiculous!
Why do we have to keep it at 1/3? Everyone in my league is pretty active (we take this league seriously) and almost no trades go through? Why? Because it only takes 1/3 of the league to veto trades!! Absolutely ridiculous. I really wish you could make it half the league....
I think saying a 1/3 no vote to veto a trade is a little misleading. For example, a 12 team league needs 4 no's to veto a trade. Two of those 12 teams are involved in the trade itself and will, thus, vote yes (unless one or both want to back out). This leaves 10 unknown votes, of which 4 (or 40%) need to be "no" in order to veto.
The effective percent of no's needed in 10 and 8 team leagues is even higher and in line with what people here are requesting. Again assuming the 2 teams involved in the trade vote yes, a 10 team league needs 4 out of 8 votes to be no (50%) and an 8 team league needs 3 out of 6 votes to be no (50%) in order to veto.
All that said, I agree that the number (or percent) of votes needed to veto a trade should be customizable.

this should be an option to set number of votes we have removed the 1/3 veto rule from all leagues which just creates more work and controversy.... FIX THIS
this rule is in place to prevent questionable trading, or the loading-up of one team. trading can also be used to just plain cheat.
leave yahoo as is please.

It took me 3 weeks to get tired of the 1/3 **** a couple of years ago to change this option over to commissioner veto but thats not how I actually do it. When a trade is put through the system, I send out text messages to every guy in the league in group format and let them vote via text. As soon as I get the 5th approval I put the trade through or veto it if the majority decide to. Woukdnt do it any other way now. No waiting period at all.

Easy fix. The platform just needs to offer 1/3, majority, 2/3 and consensus options. Or just allow the commissioner to set the number of votes needed to veto.
I understand this could be taken care of through an independent policy in your league, but isn't the point of the platform to have everything run through it? I don't see how more customization options could hurt....

have the commish take over the duty. veto is often abused
This is ridiculous that I cannot customize the veto in my league. It can be done on ESPN, what's yalls excuse? 1/3 league or commish as the only two options? Y'all can do better and I demand that y'all do!! I do t want to take all the responsibility of reviewing trades! And 5 peeps in a 14 team league is not enough!!! Every trade in my league thus far has been vetoed!!! All by haters and jealousy! We're tired of it!!! If this change is not made by next season I WILL take my league which has been on yahoo now for the 9th consecutive year to ESPN. Where I can customize whatever the **** I want. Please take this seriously because I would like to make it 10 seasons on Yahoo fantasy.
Step up and be a man. You are the commissioner, allow the trades to pass through you. If it's fair, pass it. If it's ridiculous, veto it. SOLVED.

C'mon man - agreed 1/3 is ridiculous, but this isn't that hard. Change to the Commish Approval setting, and just put a policy in place.
For example, I'm Commish and run my league this way:
1. If 1/3 of league contacts me complaining about a trade (i.e., 4 teams in a 12-team league), I will start an "investigation"
2. This "investigation" includes a simple vote. If half of the league votes to veto (i.e., 6 teams in a 12-team league, or 6 of the 10 not directly involved in the deal), then it's vetoed
BTW, we've never even got to step 1, all trades have been fine whereas in the past people loved just clicking that little "veto" button with no consequences, simply to be a douche...
So make it commish review instead of league votes, like most private leagues, and that will solve the issue.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous. In a league where everyone in a league should have say, why is it only 1/3? I really wish I could change this option or at least modify it to 6 votes instead of 4 in my league. Suck BS... I am currently thinking about swiching platforms next year.
Change Trade Review from league votes to commish and lay down the law.
as a commissioner i don't have a problem over seeing trades in my leagues i have final say but i ask the league for there input they i veto or allow the trade its simply its a fair trade or its not and if you don't what the responsibility don't be a commissioner all three of my leagues are public and i have a 90 % rejoin rate out of 12 man league

A 1/3 vote to veto a trade is beyond ridiculous and in no way justifiable. Nowhere in the world or in any faction of life does a 33.3% vote win. We have had this 12 man league for 7yrs now and have always used a minimum of 6 votes to veto. Now every trade is getting vetoed out of spite not to keep competitive Balance and fairness. That is what the veto is for. I am the commisioner and I trade more than anyone so I don't want to have the sole veto option. I want fairness but now we are on the verge of cancelling this league because it has caused a huge fight. Trades that are beyond fair are being vetoed and everyone is blaming each other. It's supposed to be fun. Not sure why this year you decided to go with only those 2 options, but it was beyond a horrible decision. I'd love to hear justification for allowing 4 ppl to dictate the competitive Balance for the other 8 and anonymously at that.

Same here, 4 haters can AND DO veto EVERY trade. Make it at least 50% or 75%.
It should be customizable. I have an 8 team league and I want to make it take 8 votes to veto. 1/3 is not enough in this league. Everything gets vetoed!!!

I think the best bet is to allow commissioners to set the number of votes it takes for a trade to be vetoed, or just make it commissioner only.
If you signed up for a league that says only two votes, then hey, that's what you signed up for. But in private leagues, you might want to do 5 or 6 out of 10, or even 7 out of 12.
I thought vetoing was easy at first, but it can be hard. You just need 1/3, but chris ivory for leveon bell is not fair. Vetoing should be 30-50% of the league for fairness.
Robert Howerin commented
Will someone please tell me how to veto an obvious unequal trade? It involves the commissioner of my league and some one else-- Chris Ivory for Le'Veon Bell? Can you believe it? What can I do? I am at firstname.lastname@example.org?

The vetoes should be 1/3-1/2 of the league and they should be reviewed somehow by a third-party. Making dumb trades are OK, but they should be reviewed for fairness. If someone wants to give up Julio Jones for LeSean Mccoy and Russell Wilson in 2016 seems fair, even-though it would be dumb in my opinion. I rather keep Julio, but trading, vetoing, reviewing is all tricky. Kind of your opinion. Definitely needs to be improved somehow. Yahoo should always be trying to improve its fantasy sports. thanks
