Our league loves the auction draft. However, with members scattered around the globe, timing the draft presents challenges for people in different time zones, so anything that makes the draft faster and more efficient is welcome. My idea would cut the draft time greatly and would actually make the draft more fun in my opinion.
The current process:
Players nominated 1 by 1, which yahoo allows a MINIMUM 30 seconds per nomination, and then bidding on each successive nomination. This is too slow and non engaging for the nomination process which is in some ways inconsequential.
What should be:
Nominate players 1 ROUND at a time (10 team league = 10 nominations at a time), and have a docket on the draft screen containing the current round's nominations, then proceed to bid on each player 1 by 1 as in the current process.
With respect to the nomination round. You Should either be able to do it 1-by-1 with a very short window (10 seconds). OR have the entire round blind, and allow for 45-60 seconds for all teams to nominate at the same time, and have all the names appear in the docket immediately after the 45 seconds.
Not only would these ideas reduce draft time, they would also make the draft more fun as you can see whats coming up ahead of you and see what your friends are putting on the grill.
Most importantly it would greatly lessen the chances of a player sneaking up on you in the 1-by-1 nomination process and missing out on him. #dothedocket
