Edit Schedules needs "Preserve Division Formatting" and/or Reset options
NOTE. This is not a discussion of whether using divisions in an FFL is good or bad. It's simply to highlight a deficiency in the tools Yahoo gives you.
I'm running a 10-team league with two divisions. In a 14-week regular season schedule, by default you play each team in your own division twice, and each team in the other division once – except for one person in the other division who you do play twice. That works. I spread people out as fairly as possible based on skill. However, I also wanted to adjust which of the cross-divison teams played each other twice, just to facilitate some rivalries that exist between certain people (this league is all friends and family). This is my first Yahoo-commished league. I thought that the Shuffle Entire Schedule button might let me do what I wanted. That way I wouldn't have to adjust everything manually. I was hoping it would just shuffle which teams were Team A, Team B, etc., so I could click it a few times to end up with the extra rivalry games I wanted.
I understood that clicking Shuffle Entire Schedule would overwrite any manual schedule changes I'd made, but I hadn't made any yet, so I went for it. BIG MISTAKE. Doing that shuffled the entire schedule around, completely destroying and ignoring the format where you play each person in your own division twice, which I like if you're going to use divisions in the first place. I clicked shuffle like 200 more times, hoping the schedule would come back around to that format, but it never did. So I gave up. I had to go to another FFL site, find a 10-team, two-division, 14-week schedule there, and then manually set the Yahoo league to that schedule, team by team, week by week. That should NOT have been necessary. There should be an option to "preserve basic division formatting" when using the Shuffle feature. Or, at the very least there should be an option to reset the schedule back to the default one for the league format you have.
