Schedule/Scoring Formats - 'Doubleheaders vs league score median'.
Each week, the median fantasy points of all teams in the league is calculated by taking the middle number in a sorted list of scores of each team. Each team would get a win if they beat the league median and a loss if they lose to it.

This feature is now available with Yahoo Fantasy Commissioner Plus.

I'm keeping track of this format in our commish notes this year (it's what were using to determine the overall winner, including playoffs). I thought it'd be fun to post records vs. total points every few weeks or so. That way people could see the difference.
After week 4:
1. 36-8-0, Total Points: 488.22
2. 31-13-0, Total Points: 459.62
3. 27-17-0, Total Points: 462.14
4. 27-17-0, Total Points: 412.84
5. 25-19-0, Total Points: 439.48
6. 21-23-0, Total Points: 425.56
7. 19-25-0, Total Points: 401.58
8. 18-26-0, Total Points: 396.72
9. 17-27-0, Total Points: 424.96
10. 16-28-0, Total Points: 393.92
11. 15-29-0, Total Points: 392.48
12. 12-32-0, Total Points: 354.16A couple things to note. Team in ninth place has been boom or bust. They've boomed big a couple weeks, and then scored moderate the other two. Total points is decent, but record is not so great.Team in 4th has just been consistent the first 4 weeks, total points isn't huge, but record is good! This shows how it is scored differently then total points. I'll post an update week after week 8.

It looks like several similar ideas have been combined into this one! Finally! Lets get this some attention, and maybe we can have it as an option next year!!

THERE ARE ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE FIXED BEFORE THIS

And an option for playing 2 games a week. Playing all teams is in essence just a total points league. Playing one team a week can cause some unlucky teams, but playing all teams takes a away the fun of it being a W-L league since the top team would go 9-0, 2nd high team 8-1, etc. If you did rankings by total points, you'd have final standings.

This has to be added during next off-season. It's becoming more and more popular, and the more people learn about it's existence, the more people are going to switch away from Yahoo because it isn't offered!

@Will, Some people say that, they are wrong, and have not played All-Play. After you play it a full season and keep track of it, you will see that the leader in total points is not usually the leader in All-Play... For instance:
If your team goes off for 200 points, and the rest of the league is around 100. You just get the max victories that week.
The next week, you scored the lowest at 90 points, the highest score was at 110 (this happens). The 110 score gets as many victories as you did the previous week with 200. If this keeps going on, the team who scores the most consistent, and beats the most teams week in and week out will make it to the playoffs! You can't be a boom or bust team, which is usually rewarded in Total Points leagues (which is why I dislike total points)...
Not to mention, it still has a similar feel as head to head each week. The entire season doesn't feel like a total points league. It's also easier to setup a playoff format as I mentioned above. Right now you don't even have the option to do playoffs in total points (that's because it should be determined on total points throughout the entire season).

That's not really any different than going by total points instead of head-to-head.

Yes, this makes the scoring so much more fair

It is an ABOMINATION, that Yahoo! has not added this as an option to their Fantasy Football Platform. There are sites like NFL.COM that allow you to have a blended scoring system that takes up to 4 different criteria into account (weekly h2h, vs all, total scoring, efficiency rating). Yahoo has 2, yes 2, types of scoring, the most simplistic platform around. Get your sh*t together Yahoo!

Played in a custom league where we awarded an extra win for teams finishing in the top half. This is a great idea and also extends the time in which teams remain competitive before they're eliminated and give up. Nothing worse than missing the playoffs because the guy you were tied with had a rollover win against someone who gave up on their team and started 3 guys who were injured.

I would be willing to pay for a doubleheader (with one game against the league average) feature. It is the simplest way to mitigate the "luck" factor of the head to head system, which is a source of increasing frustration in all leagues now that fantasy football has grown out of its adolescence. One of the major sites will offer this and there will be a flood of leagues migrating to that site. Yahoo -- be first on this. It is well worth your time.

I just posted the same thing when we scored by hand we played 13 weeks 18 games 4 doubleheaders 12 teams you could go 0-2,1-1,2-0 I wish they would put this option in.

I personally like the option of playing to matchups a week. Makes the game twice as enjoyable and rewards you for great weeks where you happen to go up against a guy scoring 180 points.

This is an underrated idea. My main league does this on myfantasyleague.com and its completely changed fantasy football for us. Nothing worse then losing 150-149 and seeing 5 other teams win with scores in the80s and 90s.

Schedule option for All Play--so we can play every team every week. no on else has it

I totally agree. A Battle Royale-type approach. Everyone against everyone. The best of head-to-head and pure point performance. Please enable this option.

I think it would be simpler & more easily understandable to have each team play each team each week.
That way, the "luck of the schedule" would be less of an issue.
In an 8-team league, the team with the highest score would receive 7 wins, the team with the second highest score would receive 6 wins & 1 loss, the team with the third highest score would receive 5 wins & 2 losses, etc.
I think it would be easier to program than the current method of creating a list of opponents for each team each week.
When play-offs arrive, the team with the most wins would have the top seed, etc. -

Love the option of mixing it up during the season with a week 13 double headers for my 12 team league. Wishing Yahoo would get on making this happen

Why don't we go to having every team play every team every week?
It would be so much more fair.
It would be easier to understand (and explain).
And, it would be easier code for the programmers to write.
