Playoffs - Odd number of teams
This playoff format would allow for an odd number of teams in the playoffs. Currently, this is not an option for playoff formats.
If they happen during the regular season, accept it and move on (for percentage purposes, a tie counts as 1/2 win + 1/2 loss).
Of course during the playoffs, an actual winner and loser must be determined to see who survives and advances and who is eliminated; however "bench scoring" should never be used as a tiebreaker under any circumstances.
Yeah, it sucks when you have the fifth-highest points scored without being in the top eight teams. It's probably a scheduling problem.
I strongly agree. I would also like to see leagues have the ability to choose the type of tiebreaker. I currently have divisional play as well, but I would like to have the option of using points scored as our tiebreaker instead of the default division record.
I was tied in my division for 1st place but did not make the playoffs because the other team was 3-2 in the division and I was 2-2 so he won the division. This makes no sense because he played one more division game than me he gets to be in the playoffs. It should be based on points. Your logic on the tie breaker makes no sense and costs me dearly. ~
Have you asked your league's Commish to add a "Consolation" bracket to the play-offs for your league. He/She can do that under the current Yahoo rules.
Also, you might want to support the requests for a format under which each team plays each team each week. That method would make it less likely that the team with the fifth highest points for the season would miss your 8-team play-offs.
Is it possible to have more than 8 teams make the playoffs in a 16 person league? I went seven and seven and barely missed the playoffs with fifth highest points in our league. If not possible to have more than eight teams maybe a losers bracket would be a good idea.
I agree with this. I was going to send this in myself but I found it in here. In a HEAD TO HEAD league tie breakers should be teams whom are tied their tie breakers should be the HEAD TO HEAD match ups between each other. Other wise the whole point of a head to head league is really pointless and every match up doesn't mean as much as it should. If its total points then the leagues should only be TOTAL point leagues. Just my thought. this year our league would have had 2 different teams in the playoffs (our other site we moved FROM had this option or at least Commissioner control of playoff teams. where I was able to change due to H2H tiebreakers) This would be a possitive change for next year!
Completely disagree. H2H is just a matter of luck. Shouldn't let a heavy bye week loss influence a tie breaker. Using aggregate points is best because it reflects the strength of the team for the entire season... not just some flukey single H2H matchup. A great big thumbs down on your idea.
Agreed. Offer multiple tie-break options for Commissioners in League settings and let each league select what it wants to use as its playoff tiebreakers. Stop forcing inept rules down our throats. Many years ago, the playoff tiebreaker was total touchdowns in the tied game. That was a GREAT tiebreaker. Basically, give commish's several options to choose among.

My League joined yahoo a few years ago because it seems to be the most user friendly site. My league is a Head to Head league and we've always had the following tie breaker rules;
1. H2H record
2. Division Record
3. Points for.
4. Points against
5. Conference Record
6. Coin Flip
If you could somehow incorporate some or all of these options under league settings next year that would be helpful. If not, at the very least, allow the league commissioner to alter the playoff brackets so we can keep with our leagues current tie breaker rules.
This year we had a tie for our last playoff spot and the wrong team was slotted into the playoffs because I couldn't change the brackets. it's caused a headache with an easy solution for all i'm concerned.
For the second straight year I have had to reinvent the wheel as well... The fact I have to jump in my DeLorean and go back to the future (great scott!) and add points to certain teams in order to get playoff matchups correct has me so infuriated that I will be taking my league to either ESPN or CBS next year. I didn't even mention the fact they butchered the pickem on more than one occasion as well. I get the fact it is a free service to us, but I'm sure they charge a pretty penny to advertisers...
I created this on August 5, and here we are in the Playoffs again, and I'm doing the exact same BS I had to do last year. There's plenty of support for this idea, and seems like it would take 30 seconds to fix.
I'd really like to know the flawed logic that was used to block commissioners from altering the playoff schedule. So let me get this straight. I can alter the scoring to manipulate results to create playoff matchups. I can manipulate the schedule at any point during the regular season, which means I could theoretically play the same team every week. But some genius decided it was unfair to manipulate the playoff schedule? Explain why this obvious error hasn't been fixed yet!!
I have a 14 team league, would like to have my championship be 6 and my consolation be 8 so that everybody plays. right now the bottom 2 teams dont get to fight in the consolation. Same deal with my 10 team league, it's 4 and 4 and the bottom 2 dont play. Either way we need more flexibility in playoff structures. I also wouldn't mind a 12 team playoff format where top 4 teams get byes.
Spot on. This site will be inferior to other sites until more options are added. Also I think that you should even be able to change the scoring type when championship & consolation brackets start. We have a 14 team league & 6 make it in, I want to keep the scoring type the same for the championship bracket as it was in the season (1st & 2nd get byes with normal head to head matchups). But in the consolation bracket, I want to make it to where the other 8 teams are all in it & the top 4 scoring teams in the 1st round advance to the 2nd round (which only 6 can play in it now with the 7th & 8th place teams undeserving getting byes) & then go back to normal head to head matchups in the rest of the consolation playoffs.
Why is there a consolation bracket for all other playoff types but the 8-team?
Agreed, please allow the playoffs to be customized

I agree! We were just talking about this in our league!
Agree completely here. This is a major concern with my league using Yahoo in the future. As some of the others suggested here below - the option to adjust playoff matchups, time frame and points would be easy fixes and immensely improve Yahoo's Fantasy Football.
My league allows the final playoff seed to be the highest scoring team without a "playoff caliber" record - an excellent way to allow teams who face terrible luck to make the playoffs with a quality team.
Yahoo - please address this area asap - even if allowing manual adjustment of match-ups this year. You can do it during the regular season, so the programming has to be built already.
I couldn't agree more. I've spent the better part of 2 hours trying to figure this out on your site. Since your playoff rules don't match our league rules, we will have to track manually to some level. Here's hoping you still score each team during the playoffs or it will be a nightmare. This should be quite simple.
Jumping on the bandwagon here... been using Yahoo for a few years now and the lack of flexibility with playoff bracket adjustments is ridiculous. The policies for ranking teams then seeding them in the playoffs is too restrictive and doesn't match the rules of many leagues. Seems like it would be easy to allow commissioners to adjust the brackets as their rules see fit.
