Rosters/Designations - Option to lock players (including benched players) when their game begins.
This option, when turned on, will prevent managers from dropping players from their bench or IR slot when their game begins. Currently, you can drop any player from your non-starting roster, even if their game has started.

A setting to lock benched players has been added to all of our full season fantasy games and should now be available under Commissioner tools. (Commissioner tab >> League Settings tab >> Edit League Settings)

This was an issue in my league as well. While I don't mind the ability to drop a player on your bench after his game has started, the corresponding 'Add' should not be available to be inserted into a starting spot until the following week.
The way it is set up now is essentially a loophole that allows for extended roster size.

I think not having this optionality allows for a sort of exploit that straddles the line of making the game equitable in terms of waivers/free agencies.
Example: Manager A fills a spot on his bench with a handcuff that's slated to play in the earliest Sunday games. After the game is nearly done, Manager A sees that the main RB has not been injured. He then cycles that roster position to a handcuff that's playing in the next slate of Sunday games and so forth. This 'strategy' allows for them to not really place value in a particular player but more of a hope to get increased value by getting a player before they hit waivers.

Lol, so much butt hurt in this thread. How is it unfair if everyone can do it?

Ya WTF happened this is the first year this is happening??? I am seeing people pick up people off of Waivers that played on Thursday night?

Currently my league is allowed to drop a player that already played and was in a starting lineup. I'm already not happy about that fact that yahoo allows you to drop a bench player that already played for a player that did not but allowing someone to start a player and then drop them once they've already played and pick up a new player to then START is outrageous.
-

You absolutely SHOULD NOT be able to drop a player that played on Thursday night to pick up someone that plays Sunday. That's ridiculous. You can just watch someone have a bad game then drop them to pick up someone that plays Sunday and START THEM Sunday?? It makes no sense why a player wouldn't lock to your roster, bench or starter, after their game starts.

It's called managing, you should be able to make any move until they play. Every manager has this option, don't whine because others are smarter.

Couldn’t agree with this more. This is the only platform that operates this way and is a massive headache for commissioners. No idea why they do this, 0 reason to not lock players at their kickoff, bench or starting. Moved a league to another platform bc of this.

Yahoo needs to lock all
players at the time of their kickoff. Currently you can make a transaction, with a bench player, even though their game has started or is over. It’s impossible to police as a commissioner and every other platform doesn’t operate this way. Lock players all at their game times or at least give the option in the commish tools. Basically it allows owners to make moves during games and can drop players that get injured in their game for a late start player, which is a sketch, and is the reason waivers exist. It also increases strategy as you can’t go into the 1’ o’clocks knowing you can just drop a bench player for a player’s back up if he’s questionable ina late start time. -

I think that this should be an "optional" setting. As a commissioner, I like the yahoo setting. I think u should be able to drop any player at any time.
What I hope everyone realizes is:
1. yahoo teams cannot drop a player who's real-life team has already played AND that you had in your starting lineup. U can only drop players who's real-life team has already played AND is on ur bench. Im not 100% on that, but i'd bet on it. At the very least, the score of that player would count, that I know.2. That, you can only pick up players that are available (ie, that haven't played their game that wk). So, it's not like a straight add/drop. The only benefit is that u get to hold a player a little longer than being forced to make that decision before the player to be dropped plays. Its not like Thur night game happens, u have a wr3 in the game, but have him on ur yahoo team's bench...starting rb1 goes down with torn acl, and then u can drop ur wr4 for the handcuff rb.
This only really comes into play for players that play Thur night games. With Sun and Mon night games, there will be very very limited players available for pickup, as most every teams has already played (majority of the times ~75% of teams have played in the early sunday afternoon games and are all locked from being added). And if there are players to pick up, even more limited as most of the "startable" players are probably already on rosters.

I agree with the way yahoo has it set up.
If you have a short bench and drop a player from your bench, it still hurts the team that had to drop someone. Thay can’t pickup the player they dropped until the dropped player clears waivers.I would rather have it this way and not have to deal with the numerous situations where having an entire locked bench could cause. If a star player is a game time decision in a late game, I would rather have someone try and make a move than go with an empty set because that player is inactive and their entire bench is locked. Alternatively it stops a team in a must win situation from dropping a star player so they can fill a lineup, which would cause league chaos.
I do agree it should be an option, but I thought it was

It is unfair because someone could take a flyer on a player, see how they perform, then drop them if the underwhelm. Gives them multiple chances to hit on a player. Similar for “churning” players to block others from pickups.

Just submitted a ticket about this BS rule! I had a guy with an empty QB and K position and Monday at noon this guy picks up SF QB and NYG Kicker and beats me by ONE point when the other players he dropped on his bench had already played. TOTALLY unfair!

I agree the rule needs to change to lock all players from being dropped after they have played.

Completely disagree. Sometimes you have to make last minute pickups.

How can a player drop a player from a team that has already started and played, say on a Thursday and then pick up a player who hasn’t played for the week.
-
R J K commented
This would be a great "option." We currently enforce this setting manually, albeit painful. My league always asks the question, "Yahoo doesn't have a setting for that?" PLEASE add.
-
Citizen commented
No, Yahoo is right about this. If a player was not in the starting lineup for you, you should be able to pick up another player if that player being picked up has not played yet this week.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix this loop-hole!! Or, give the Commish the ability to lock individual rosters(bench)once the players game has kicked off for that week.
