Rosters/Lineups - Roster limits for positions.
This feature would allow commissioners to set the maximum and minimum number of players a team can roster at each position at a given time. For example, teams can have a maximum of 3 QBs on their roster or a team can have a minimum of 1 kicker. Currently there is no way to set the maximum or minimum number of players a team can roster at each position.

In public and Pro leagues, there are position limits.
In private leagues, it is left up to the commish to control.

Please institute a way to allow commissioners to set position limits for individual positions. You guys are a tech company, how many lines of code would that really take? Even ESPN can figure it out.

I have been begging Yahoo to allow position limits for private leagues for almost a decade. I'll post a link to the thread, that started a few years ago. It's the 4th most voted request in "Top Ideas". Might as well add your useless vote there too. Join the party.

As a Fantasy Football Commissioner I would like to be able to put a cap on each position that can be drafted/added to each team.

This would be a very useful tool for commissioners. It is so difficult to manually police this and it really screws up waivers when someone near the bottom grabs their 4th QB in a 14 team league. Most people probably will never use this but it will really help out big leagues like mine.

I don’t think this should be across the board for every league but at the very least an OPTION is custom leagues.

Please please please implement this. We have too much abuse of this our league that I’m looking for a league that will support this. Don’t want to leave yahoo but may have to.

Regardless of whether it would be after the draft or before the draft,
I'd hate to have this rule imposed on a league that I play in. -

This is such an open ended proposal. What limits are proposed? If you're in a league with a commish that changes various league settings after the season starts, you should be looking for another league. I've heard of some crazy league configurations, and I truly don't understand why anyone would want to play 2 QB's and multiple active players in other positions. I've had a league going into it's 11'th year and I simply attempt to replicate scoring of the actual game as close as possible. If your defense intercepts, they get 2 points a TD gets them another 6, IDP players; Line, LB & BF (1 ea.) score points etc. No sense describing my league except to say we changed to "keeper" league 4 years ago, 3 keepers max, 1 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def, 1 DL, 1 D, 1 DB, 6 Bench & 1 IR. Rules are written & everyone has a copy. Rule changes have happened a couple of times but they were minor and voted on, simple majority except when we added IR which I required 100% agreement on before implementing.
My comments may sound simplistic, but at the end of the day it's like complaining about FOX News or CNN. If you don't like the program, don't watch it. If you don't like the way your commish runs the league your in, it's time to bail. -

This rule needs to be implemented. It shouldn't be Yahoo default or anything but an option that a commissioner can set at the beginning of the season that will lock once the draft starts. I run 4 leagues and those leagues are highly competitive and in each one this rule would benefit. My only stipulation would be that any player you can put in an IR spot doesn't count against your max player position. If you think this shouldn't be an option, then you're probably someone who doesn't understand the full dynamics of fantasy football and either never ran a league before or only ran one for selfish reasons. And for those who think increasing points on kickers and defense is a good idea, in what world would anyone hold more than 2 kickers no matter how many points they score? Its all about value and no matter what way you swing it, Quarterbacks and Running Backs hold the most value. Simple as that.

This idea is not necessary.
Well, it's worse than that.
It would be destructive to good fantasy play. -

I oppose this suggestion.
I understand that I can choose to not join the leagues which use the rule,
but I've also seen some league commissioners change rules after the draft.
How are you going to insure that a commissioner cannot add position limits after the draft ? -

This "problem" is not really the problem.
The true "problem" involves how a league's commissioner sets up the scoring system.
If you set up your league with RBs and QBs scoring lots more points than the other positions, then of course you'll have managers drafting extra RBs and QBs.
If you set up your league so that DEFs and Ks and return specialists also have good value,
then managers will choose extra DEFs and Ks and return specialists.
The issue here involves supply and demand.
WRs have an over-supply, so you don't benefit from picking extra WRs unless return specialists are rewarded in your league specs.
DEFs and Ks are actually in shorter supply than RBs and QBs. It is amazing how much differently a manager will draft when DEFs and Ks and return specialists are valuable positions on a roster.
So, just reduce the value of RBs & QBs and watch this "problem" disappear. -

I oppose this idea.
I want to keep some good players on my bench at all times.
They are useful for injuries and byeweeks.
Limiting my bench will limit my ability to manage my team well. -

I was in a dumb league like that and won it. I ended up grabbing Stafford when I caught onto what they were doing and got stacked with RBs and WRs. Needless to say, I ended up winning that league. I urged others in the league to not trade with those owners because they were stuck where they could only play 1 QB anyway. They ended up having to play WR4s and WR5s as their WR1 and same with their RBs. I say if people want to be stupid...let them...it just means more RBs and TEs for you. Just be aware and grab a reasonable QB in the 5th or 6th round.

To make roster "position" limits completely flexible to suit a leagues needs - make each positions min-max range equal to the number of roster positions for each team, like 0-16 for a 16 roster spots league, and then you can set limits for specific positions as needed like QB min-max 0-2 to limit everyone to 2 QBs
