Season (avg) is a per game stat and should not factor in TOI/G. This makes no sense to me....just because a guy has a better 'per minute' average does not mean that his coach is gonna play him for the same number of minutes as someone else who has the same 'per minute' average. Yahoo please change this! Thank you.

This situation may call for two equations: 1/ Points for distance of the punt (the longer the better) 2/ For punts fielded inside the 20 yard line, points for closeness to the goal line (the closer to the goal line the better). These two equations should reflect good football strategy well enough.
I think Chris is correct that a punt that results in a touchback should be scored as though it was fielded at the 20.
I'd just as soon ignore the length of the return for punter statistics. It can be scored by giving the other team points for return yardage.
The remaining problem is how to score a blocked punt. -

Should Jim should receive a medal for changing the wording on his comment?
We get medals for just about everything else. -

1. I also agree on adding punters to yahoo or at least giving you the option of using punters in a private league.
2. I have always thought about the coaches option too, but when you think about it, you can only use it in a 12 or less team league. In a weekend of games, you'll only have 16 coaches that can win and on bye weeks, you can have a minimum of 13 coaches who will win.
3. home field advantage is a pretty good idea, at least for sure in the playoffs. I think that the teams with better records should have some advantage over the H2H opponents they play in the playoffs. I've been playing fantasy football for the last 7 years and I can honestly say that the team with best record has won the championship less than 50% of the time.

NO. Shoot outs do not belong in hockey. PERIOD.

How about options similar to another site where u can set bonuses for receptions per position

Accepting this idea would also solve the problem that FGs of 60+ yards should count more than 50-59 yard FGs.

The problem here is that punters generally do not put points on the scoreboard directly. In fact, the punter can only be effective fantasy-wise on drives where his team doesn't score (not counting fake plays).
Since the punter's greatest asset lies in the field position game, the best stat category to measure the effectiveness of a punter is "Net Punt Yards", which in this case would be the length of the punt minus (or plus) any return yardage gained (or lost) by the receiving team. If the result of the punt is a touchback, then it would be the length of the punt minus 20 yards. (Question: is any penalty yardage gained or lost also included?)
Also, keep in mind that a guy like Ben Roethlisberger (normally a QB) may occasionally execute a pooch punt, and as such would be eligible for any stats normally associated with a punter.

The only other category I would consider adding is yardage given up passing and rushing.....reward a defense for holding a team to under 100 yards either passing or rushing and then tier it from there. You could give a defense +1-3 points for holding a team under 100 yards and then subtract -1 for giving up lets say 100-200 and then -2 for 200-300 and -3 for 300-400 and subtract -5 points for giving up 400+ yards passing or rushing. Just a thought

Honestly, I think this should be an option either way for the commish whether the PIM stat is good or bad. As far as I know it isn't an option. Regardless, I think it opens deep leagues to even more player options. Also, like goalies, it would have an impact at the end of the week where if you were already up (or down, I guess...) in the PIM stat, a team could just bench all their players who are likely to fight. Still, I think it should be a choice.

you guys have a slew of stats in the new players' profiles pages, but you should add the TOI/G and PP TOI/G. Would help a lot.

While I like scoring longer FGs as worth more, I'm not sure that I like the ideas presented here.
In one of my leagues, we score FGs as:
Pt.After a TD 1.0 point
18-19 yards 3.0 points
20-29 yards 5.5 points
30-39 yards 8.5 points
40-49 yards 12.0 points
50+ yards 16.0 points
.
I accept the idea that a 49 yard FG should be worth more than a 40 yard FG.
However, we use an exponential expansion in the gap.
The equation for it would be something like: (fantasy points = 1 + 0.1 * yards ** 1.5)
.
We also subtract more for missing short FG attempts than for missing long ones. -

Lots of QBs complete more than 20 passes in a game.
I don't see that as being particularly bonus-worthy. -

I think that I need to change the wording of the last sentence of my Dec-19 comment on this suggestion.
I regret saying that a player who moves the ball nine yards on first-and-ten does more than a player who moves the ball one yard on second-and-one.
My error is: Short yardage specialists don't play on second-and-one.
They are likely on the field for third-and-one and for fourth-and-one, but they are rarely used on second-and-one because the team is generally going for more yardage than the minimum one yard needed for a first.
I'll try to think about comments longer before posting them in the future. -

Maybe Yahoo could just give a medal to players each time they make a first down. I'd rather see the medals go there than to continue cluttering up my Yahoo account.

The Nov.30 comment from Anonymous seems sensible for the default.
Then, the commish of any private league should be able to modify it as he (or the league) desires. -

I don't see how giving credit for making a first down would increase the value of goal line backs.
I easily understand that goal line backs (short yardage specialists) are the guys often used for third & one and fourth & one situations. However, most first downs are made by other players. Giving credit for first downs would actually decrease the Relative-Value of goal line backs.
The players who would benefit most from the change would be QBs and possession receivers.
