Social TV App
Binging on TV is so commong now and it would be great to see some use of the Intonow technology in a new social tv app concept. Combining the technology behind intonow with a basic social networking concept (check-ins, followers, activity feeds) AND a live chat system similar to twitch would make social tv more about interactivity, then just "checking in". Using an app with the intonow technology, it could determine where a person is in an episode when it is playing on any media source by simply pressing the listen button. Using this live information, the app would place the user on a timeline for the whole episode and it would update in real time where you are in the episode. Other people who have the app open and are watching the same episode at the same time would be placed on the timeline as well and they would updated in real time too. For the users spot on the timeline, there would be a range marker a little after where they are on the timeline and a little before (it would be also adjustable for the user). Any other users watching the same episode in real time in that range would be visible in the chat to the user. This would help any unwanted spoilers from people who are watching the same thing at the same time but are already ahead. You could even have more than one chat open if you wanted to just privately chat about something you are watching. People who are just joining after the episode had already started could just look at the timeline and check the time code of where the people they want to watch with. Then just match it up to the player of whatever your watching the episode on. It wont be exact but it would be close enough. People could also just go on a waiting list and wait for people to join in an episode. When enough people join they can all start at the same time.
A user could also just go to a browse section and see what show is being watched the most in that moment and join in on any groups of people watching.
Since a chat box doesn't really have to take up that much space (especially on tablets) there is a significant portion on the screen that could be used for advertisements. Like a second screen commercial box that doesn't interfere with the programming, or even the functionality of the app. Different ads could be placed at different times in the episode. It could also be ads relevant to the content in the episode. These types of targeted ads don't require any kind of saving of peoples information from social media. They would only be ads catered to what people are choosing to watch and share.
I have seen how a chat can really make watching a show really engaging, especially if its the second, third, tenth time watching it. Even though chat platforms so video are mostly live streams, this is very similar and I think it a whole new dimension to this medium.
