Hi, please let us know how we can improve Groups.

Important locations in group hierarchy no longer available

I was told by customer care to raise this bug report.

There are many significant and desirable locations in the group directory hierarchy that are no longer available for groups.

First, no group can be placed at level two. For example:

All /Science/Chemistry

We're not supposed to put groups there just because that category happens to have a subcategory (Professional)? Why the heck not? You used to be able to do that in the good old days. But now we can't

We can't put groups at level four or greater.

So birdwatchers and ornithologists are not allowed to choose

All/ Science / Biology /Animals /Birds

because it is level 4? Why the heck not? We used to be able to do that, now we can't.

You have, presumably by oversight, taken this important functionality from us. Please make the effort to restore it.

Just try to put your test group in one of those places are in any similar place before you dismiss my suggestion without cause, as you did my last one!

And yes, I'm frustrated with you, Yahoo. But I'm still trying very hard to make Yahoo Groups a success.

Hi David

We’re revamped the search and browse experience to surface relevant and active groups. The specific example you have pointed out,

All/ Science / Biology /Animals /Birds

Is now available in the Browse experience.

We understand you want to be able to place your group in the correct sub-category perhaps 3 or 4 levels deep in the directory hierarchy. We have limited the re-categorization of exiting groups and new groups to two levels. We are sorry we cannot oblige at this time. With Search improvements – a good description of your group should help users find the group easily by searching.

The user help in France is totally uncompetent !

    They have nothing to offer.

Yahoo is paying these people to no avail, they dont ACT when notified about a problem,
they just write long emails with excuses !

Doesnt YAHOO have developers, do they just hire people to answer emails and delaying, procrastinating and excusing away problems ?????

Very important: new users are at a loss to find a group they could be interested in when browsing through groups becaues of lack of relevant categories and subcategories

This hierarchy needs to be resintated ! It was lost with NEO YAHELL !!

It seems that "browse categories" for the national group pages that I have tested are broken. Either the equivalent link is missing, or the page "dir" page shows no categories or groups, or it shows a Product Tour. This problem deserves its own UserVoice suggestion, but I don't have time to create one now.

This suggestion is about not being able to place groups in most existing categories.

You will probably need to persist with Customer Care until you reach someone from the Indian subcontinent.

I am a yahoo user from France and in the FRENCH LISTING all subcategories have been erased !

French user help is totally unable to help.

Why did all subcategories disappear ?

You really have a handle on this, David. I wish you were working for yahoo, instead of attempting to work with them. This issue might actually get fixed. I have a romance and relationships advice group, and that entire section has been wiped clean. Not an "adult group" issue, none of us are in the adult section.

Maybe I should move my group into All / Health & Wellness / Advice :-)

IT got impossible to find a group in the group listings.
All the groups are mixed up, and there is no hierarchy.
groups with 5 members appear on the first page, along with important groups with thousands of members
one is obliged to scroll down pages of groups to find the one group needed!
    This is reaLLY BAD !

The reason that I could place my test group at

    All / Health & Wellness / Advice

is that it has no sub-categories. If it had a subcategories, we would be forced to place our groups in one of those.

  • David ADavid A commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

But the exception that proves the rule: you can actually put a group at

    All / Health & Wellness / Advice

Congratulations, Yahoo! You did one thing right.

    So here is the summary:

Level Two with no subcategories: right
    Level Two with categories: wrong
Level Three with no subcategories: right
Level Four, Five, etc higher: wrong.

Evaluation: Less than 50% of the cases have been correctly handled.

No group can be put at:

    All /Computers & Internet / Cyberculture /Virtual Communities / Yahoo! Groups

(The level 4 or higher bug.)

  • David ADavid A commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

How about this one. Yahoo's neglected Townhall group is at

    All /Computers & Internet / Internet

But we can't place our groups there! Favoritism. ;-)

Yahoo has decreed that there is no Music / History

Before 1950 or from 1990 onwards.

    Join in the fun!

  • David ADavid A commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

This one's a great example too. You can't put a group under

    All / Health & Wellness / /Drugs and Medications

    Because it has the subcategories

  • David ADavid A commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Here's a fun one. No one can choose a model under:

    All /Entertainment & Arts /Fashion /Models

    Other examples anyone?
