Bring back voting for best answer after a period of time passes with no best answer
Too many answers never get a best answer. Voting should be brought back if no best answer has been selected after 6 weeks or so.

Please DON'T implement this. I was around when this was allowed and the abuse was appalling. There were many users with millions of best answers!? You know that's a hack. Y!A hadn't been up long enough for anyone to type that many quality answers. (It didn't help that users could up-vote their own answers, either!)
If you want to get credit for up-votes, the simple way to do that is just to count them. How many up-votes on all answers you've given. That's another stat to go along with (not replace) asker-selected "Best Answer" counts.

My questions are often answered by trolls. Every single one is often name-calling yet you want me to pick the best??? "this one only called me a fruit cake but the other called me a headcase and a fruit cake, so the fruitcake guy gets best answer?" It is up to the individual if he finds an answer better than the others. If he doesn't, do you want him to lie?

I agree with this. But only provided this is set up in such a way that users cannot vote for their own content.

It was ended because too many users were self voting to level themselves up, whether the response they gave was of any value or not. Questions don't NEED to have best answers. The reason for being on the site should be to gain information or to share it, without regard of being awarded points. Too many OPs already select any answer (including nonsense ones) as BA just to get 3 pts back for having posted a question in the first place.

That is a very good idea..
No way. Why would we want to give undeserved useless points to people who vote for their own answers, or who are popular?
