If a person does not make a pick (say on a Thurs. night game) they should lose their highest points.
So if someone fails to get a pick in on time, they should lose their highest remaining point total. Say there is an upset and everyone else had the upset team picked high, you are rewarding the person who did not get there pick in. That will obviously make the missed game their 1 point game. It should not be that way.

I am a commish and I like that it can be lowest point. I don't think for not picking a game should make you lose your highest point, lowest point if fine. I think that is a little harsh.

It seems like this is a common complaint. It also seems most people are in agreement highest point total should be lost if you fail to pick a game. Is there anyone from Yahoo that is responding on these threads?

This is for NFL Confidence Pool.
As commish this happens multiple times every year and is extremely frustrating to those who actually pick Thursday games.
It would be great if there was an option in settings that allowed the commish to decide how to handle this issue. There are a lot of options available, like:
A. Eliminate the highest point value for that week.
B. Eliminate the highest point value from the teams that picked Thursday.
C. Eliminate the highest point value plus one from the teams that picked Thursday
D. Eliminate the AVG point value from the teams that picked Thursday.
I would like to see option C implemented as it gives a penalty, but not too severe.

How hard can this be?
Simply write code that offers this option during league formation!

I sense lots of poor losers in this thread - Maybe not picking on Thursday is a strategy...
Every time you change the rules, there will be winners/losers... someone will be upset if they are penalized full points, and don't win even though the rest of their picks were perfect that week.

Looks like this was started back in 2013 and is the 2nd highest user feedback request...YAHOO, are you even paying attention to your users/customers??

I don't know if they should lose their highest point value - but maybe the average of what all other picking members picked??

Yahoo, how hard is it to write an algorithm that gives the Commissioner a pre-season toggle switch when setting up the league: You either lose your highest points first or your lowest points first.
Your default of the lowest points creates NO INCENTIVE for participation on Thursdays.
Still gathering info on this? The gathering info process is how many yrs?? People end up benefitting from forgetting to pick sometimes. Ridiculous.

THIS. IS. DRIVING. ME. NUTS.
I have been burned on this now 5 of the 8 weeks already this season. PLEASE MAKE THOSE MISSED GAMES WORTH THE MAX POINTS INSTEAD OF 1.
Completely agree with this post. Something needs to be done by Yahoo THIS SEASON!!! Add an option to enforce this rule at the very least. It's a severe disadvantage when a player misses Thursday but can just simply assign a 1-point value because they missed the game. Please fix this!!!
So Yahoo have you decided to at least allow the commissioner to choose if it should be the 1 point or max point game? There are plenty of options available I don't see why we can't add one more.
give the group commissioner the ability to pick what the point loss should be for his pool.
as JKO posted give the group commissioner the ability to pick what the point loss should be for his pool...
Have a button that picks all the home teams to win and top points to lowest for the week for the entire year. Then all that's needed, is for the player to change anything they want.
Should be a league option, but definitely not standard
Because we experienced this in prior years our pool switched to using the cutoff for the week. If you miss the cutoff time you miss out on earning any points in that week. With this change we also dropped 2 low scores of the season.
But to remedy the issue, with every game that's missed the slacker should loose the ability to assign the highest point values. Obviously they would put 1 pt on the missed game but they should also loose the 16pt assignment. So miss 1st game you loose the ability to assign 16points to any remaining games, miss the 2nd loose the 15 pts, etc... There should be a penalty not a benefit to the slacker.
Disagree. Why should this game have any more bearing than a Sunday or Monday game? Because the other people might pick an "upset"? LOL. Sounds like you are mad that someone that hasn't been making a Thursday pick is beating you. This suggestion should not be implemented.
Jeremy, every other confidence pool that i've know assigns the highest available points to a missed game. Yahoo is the only one that i've experienced that does not.
Choosing not to assign confidence points isn't the answer. Simply assigning one point to early games makes more sense, then you would either be out one point just like the slacker, or get your point. This would ensure if an upset occurs, you can stay competitive with the slacker.
But to try to mitigate an advantage the slackers gain with the possibility of an upset, this changes the whole dynamic of the pool. If i played to try to mitigate a potential advantage the slacker has, then by default, all my early games become one pointers. I shouldn't have to do that just because someone else is too lazy to get pick in on time.
While I can understand the frustration, I ultimately disagree with the proposal; if someone doesn't pick a game, they should lose the lowest unassigned point. The argument that "if an upset occurs, those that don't pick" doesn't hold - upsets can happen during any game. If you are so overly concerned about this, don't assign confidence points in your league.
