How can we improve Yahoo?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Stop allowing people to answer the yahoo answer questions that are more than a year old!

I'm having people answer the questions that I've asked on yahoo answers, more than 4 years ago! One was asked 8 years ago! Why is this still going on? I have asked you all to stop allowing people to answer questions that are more than a year old, a while back, and I still keep getting emails from yahoo about it. Please fix that!

  2. I like the changes but also have concerns for acquiring points for best answer

I like the changes but do have concerns about receiving all points earned. Many times when I receive an email for the best answer I do not receive the 10 points. This has happened several times. I had a best answer two days ago but still have not received the 10 points. Is there anyway to monitor the points to make sure the members get all the points due to them? I have no idea on how to improve that but I know the Yahoo Team will find a way.
Thanks! Have a great day!!! =)

  3. NO! STOP CHANGING YAHOO ANSWERS!

I've been a top contributor for something like 4 or 5 years. Enough with the changes. If you want me to continue to contribute then stop making it so that I don't even like answering here anymore.

Right now people are already YES ALREADY disgusted with your changes. They don't like the new format as it is. Its difficult to navigate and lacks intuitive design. It must've been designed by the same idiots that designed Windows 8 and you know how bad that turned out.

There already is little to no reward in answering these questions. So if you make…

  4. Regarding Asker Only choosing Best Answer

In my experience, about 80% or more of the time the Asker NEVER chooses best answer. This leaves a lot of us who spend a lot of time on Y!A with less rewards than we now get (which isn't much anyway).

As it is if I am on vacation, don't spend as much time on the site, or don't make the cut on Best Answers, I lose my "crown". I've been around a long time now, as have been a lot of my fellow Answerers and we shouldn't have to scrape for recognition. We deserve better.

    My 2 cents

  5. Thanks for the changes - it was long overdue

    Thanks,
In order to keep quality coming please change how you display the "best answers" by percent, rather show the count "46 best answers"

this way nobody would be afraid of diluting the best answers rate

  6. Please don't get rid of voter-selected Best Answers.

I just got an email saying that starting this week, only if the asker selects a Best Answer will there be any Best Answer. Have you not noticed that the MAJORITY of askers never bother to choose a Best Answer? There is NO reason for this change, other than Yahoo's apparent slogan: If it ain't broke, break it.

  7. Ask us what we want BEFORE you change things.

You changed the email without asking us, you changed (and fouled up) the format in Yahoo! Answers without asking us. The one thing that EVERYONE has asked for at one time or another is the one thing you HAVEN'T changed: The arbitrary deletion of HARMLESS questions and answers simply because some idiot decided to report it out of sheer meanness. Some asked the question, "What can you see to the right of you?" and my answer, "A table, a chair, and a wall." was reported AND deleted! You can't just delete answers because someone reported them! You need to have…

  8. You are taking away the "community" part of Y!A

Not all of the sections are the same. For instance, in the Computers & Networking section, most users are in an urgent need for a quick solution to a problem, They don't usually have to reflect on a number of answers to find the best solution. Once their problem is solved they should be allowed to vote without having to wait.

  10. Best Answers: Must choose BA before asking more questions if they have open questions 4 weeks or older

Not allowing an asker to ask new questions if they have old questions that are still open would help to keep it cleaned up and assure that someone gets BA.

  11. Make it possible to add additonal information after being chosen best answer!

I've had many times that the asker has had more questions and could not give them any more details in the comment section under my answer.

  12. How about not rewarding any points, period.

We're well aware that most TOP ANSWERERS are voting themselves to have the best answer - the pointing system is corrupt. I think you guys should get rid of the point system for asking questions, answering questions, or getting the best answer.

I agree the person asking questions should vote for best answer. And give them 2 weeks to vote or their question is automatically deleted.

I also wish there was an option (like thumbs up or down) to automatically throw out a question that is either asked repetitively by the same poster, or questions that belong in a different…

  17. I'm actually thrilled about the changes.

I quit answering questions on this site due to other "contributors" simply asking their friends to vote for their answers (I'm especially referring to the obviously wrong answers), therefore defeating the purpose of me answering a question thoroughly and the entire reward system.

In my opinion you shouldn't change anything for the next couple months - let's see how this system works in practice and then decide whether further changes are required.

  18. This is great news! Just a small concern...

Getting rid of community answers is great since most answers that are top voted by the community are one lined 'smart' responses that revolve around 'Google it yourself' or 'I don't know'. This will definitely improve the quality of our discussions and I really do welcome this.

However, using a thumps up and down system is pretty bad since most people don't bother reading the answer and randomly click the button. Good answers are often overlooked as a result of this and I feel that an alternative should be explored.

    Thanks!

Rating an answer on popularity rather than voter consensus of content is an error. Unpopular truths will stop appearing, and mediocrity and PC will prevail, until we wander off in boredom!
Frechrissake, I cant even refer to a ho mo-sapiens with out the idiot asterisk monster ******* on my post!

We also cannot any longer respond to a grateful asker with a thank you, or a response to a question. Usually can't email them.

  20. Another change I don't like. Now I can only see maybe ten questions and then they cycle again. Bad!

Go back to allowing older questions to be viewed and comments added. I enjoyed revisiting questions, sometimes editing my comments, sometimes enjoying what others posted after me. I don't like such limited access that I see now. It takes away some of the fun for me.
