How can we improve Yahoo?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Search should not include Trash by default

When I do a search, the results include messages in my Trash. This is usually not very helpful (lots of deleted drafts, declined meetings, and stuff I put into Trash because I don't want to see it anymore). Can Trash be excluded from by default, with an option to additionally include items in Trash in search results?

  2. Task list

With a move from Exchange to Yahoo Mail, we're going to lose Outlook's task list. Given that we acquired Astrid, can we add tasks to Yahoo Mail as we switch over? This is an important tool for GTD fans.

    FYI, it's a duplicate of https://backyard.yahoo.com/qna/fyi/071114?sid=27313

  3. How to filter ilists?

Yahoo Mail has no functionality that I can find (in regular mail) to filter on headers, and thus won't be able to filter ilists very well. Is that feature coming? If I can't filter ilists I will basically have a denial-of-service attack on my email. It won't be usable.

Yahoo Mail supports filtering on subject, to, from and body keywords. Corp Mail has filters disabled because we are still on Exchange. Once we move off Exchange filters will be enabled in Yahoo Mail. For iLists the filter sent to iList will have to be used. We understand this may not handle the bcc: case. We are evaluating more advanced filter options in future. Regards,

  4. Time limits for Sent and Trash folders

How long do items remain in the Sent and Trash folders before they are deleted from the servers?

  5. Tags for categorization

Have you ever wanted to add a message to several folders or categorize them easily for task planning and resolution? Looking at the competition, namely Gmail, tags working as categories that help you sort your inbox appear to be a very strong tool to achieve this. Could we come up with something similar or adapt the approach? It would also resolve the issue of sub-folders of sub-folders being hard to display from an UI perspective that some of us were reporting.

  6. Replying to email thread is confusing

Whenever I reply to email thread I am always confused as to where last email is. I would expect my reply to be on top and most recent email below. Large gaps between emails make the thread look very disorganized. Not sure what i can click on to expand or hide previous emails.

  7. Feature request: Enable easy switch between accounts

We need an easy way to switch between multiple user accounts including custom YUIDs that we use for internal testing.
Can we have a similar feature to Google where we can assign multiple accounts to one main account and we can switch between them easily?

This would prevent forcing us to:
-- use 2 different browsers: 1 for mail and one for testing
-- use an incognito / private session
-- sign in and out all the time when we need to use a different account

    Thanks

  9. Edit draft message by clicking on it

I use the right preview-pane. Its fast & super efficient.
However it seems silly to me to have to click the button in the tool bar "edit draft" in order to edit the draft that is being previewed. Can't I just click on the message in order to edit it?

  10. Ability to show more than 1 month in the left pane of the Calendar View

It would be great to be able to modify how many months are visible in the left pane of the Calendar view. Right now it only shows the current month, we should have the option to show multiple months at a time for planning purposes.

  11. ability to attach emails in an email?

One of the benefits of Outlook is that it allows you to send emails as an attachment. This is a valuable feature because internal processes to recognize partner payments require that we attach the original email from the partner -- an email forward is not sufficient. It's also valuable when dealing with legal issues, since I can attach multiple emails in a single message. This is something Gmail could never do right. Can Yahoo Mail provide this?

  12. Email Format

When I send an email, the receiver doesn't see the same font type and size that I had used. I received an email from a colleague that had a grid in it that was pasted from Excel (she uses Outlook), I then made amendments and re-sent it and once she received the email the format was very extremely unclear and unlike my original mail.

  15. Slow/delayed mail?

I use Mail on desktop and on iOS. Every time I get an email I get a notification on my phone but when I go check on desktop mail to read the email, it hasn't shown up. It usually takes 3-4 minutes for it to finally show up.

  16. Inbox is unecessarily hard to clear

Clearing my inbox (which for me means marking email as read) is unnecessarily hard because: 1.) conversations sometimes do and sometimes do not get automatically marked as read (depending on the thread); 2.) there is a 1s delay before a thread sometimes does or sometimes does not get marked as read (even though the delay is set to "immediate"); 3.) the mark-as-read keyboard shortcut toggles between read and unread, so I often mark read mail as unread again.

  17. Size of left pane

It would be helpful to have ability to adjust the width of the left pane view, so as to view the entirety of our Inbox and sub folder names. While the majority of them are in view, this will help differentiate among folders that may start with the same names and read as 'Folder Name ...'.

  19. Right Preview Pane for Corporate Email

Right preview pane is disabled and makes me inconvenient to see the mail preview. I was using outlook so far and recently opted for Yahoo mail for Corporate. Do not want to use the mail preview on the bottom. Why mail preview pane on the right is disabled on corporate email?

Right preview pane isn’t disabled for corporate users. It’s disabled at smaller screen sizes. If your screen is to narrow to fit all the elements needed for side preview pane, then that option is grayed out. Thanks,Kevin

  20. Folder Pane Width

Some of my Subfolders or folders of subfolders can't be seen when expanded, is it possible to allow for adjusting the width of the folder pane?

This will add complexity to the UI. Also with it comes requests to make it sticky etc. Also many of the UI patterns are based on some assumptions. This will break them introducing new kind of bugs. For example, the sender column width in conversation view only has two sender info for that reason. This might also have impact on the right rail ad position. How bad do you need this? Is scrolling not an option? At the end of the day we can allow stretching but there is a limit nevertheless. – mayukh
