Enhance spam detection
Lately a lot spams have bypassed detection and they all have a very unique garbage like appearance in their subject and sender. Examples for subjects "- ²C'o n G r-@ at°", "H°ealTh", "C°on gr aT <", ".C'o n-g r a t..!". Examples for sender "S A - M s .°", "P'ro Sta Te", "A'ir PodS", "S' AM S.°". It'd seem easy enough if only Yahoo can use NLP to get a basic assessment on how nonsensical these are.

YES!! What has changed? Why is there an increase in obvious spam? Is this a marketing attempt to get users to pay for Yahoo mail services?
If so, I will be deleting my complete association with Yahoo.

Like many, as of about a couple months ago, I suddenly started receiving tons of spam. Less than half is getting caught by the spam filters. I don't know what happened, but my inbox is flooded and becoming unusable. I'll give it a couple months but if this keeps up, I'll just give up on Yahoo.

Folks, NEVER click Unsubscribe if you mark an email as Spam & Yahoo offers UNSUBSCRIBE
Here's my detailed submission to Yahoo (previously sent & got robotic nonsense responses):
Let's try this again, because the answer below from "Yahoo Support", shows that they DO NOT understand the problem.
1. Yahoo usually sends this response to anyone making any mention of receiving spam:
"Getting unwanted emails or spam is frustrating. While most of spam emails are being caught by our spam filters, occasionally some can slip through.
When this happens, it’s very important to mark the email as Spam. More info here:https://help.yahoo.com/kb/manage-spam-mailing-lists-yahoo-mail-sln28056.html
2. That link from Yahoo on managing spam includes the following recommendations from Yahoo:
Don't reply to unknown senders.
Never reply to email subscriptions asking to be removed.
and that link also includes this STATEMENT FROM YAHOO regarding the pop-up OPTION TO UNSUBSCRIBE:"When you mark a message from a mailing list as spam and we trust the sender,
you'll be given the option to unsubscribe rather than marking it as spam."3. Carefully review the attached screenshot of an email I Marked as Spam,
and Yahoo (1) trusts the sender and (2) assumes it's a subscription, and (3) pops-up the option to UnsubscribePROBLEMS WITH THIS:
* this is clearly SPAM and/or PHISHING
* the Sender PRETENDS to be = = = "Mca-ffee" = =
* the spoofed sender's email is email@ggggggggggardeners.com
* the entire email content is an IMAGE designed to spoof and phish you
* the Unsubscribe link in the spam email is bogus and will create more spam from the spammers
* I am NOT SUBSCRIBED to this spam email - it is NOT LISTED in Yahoo Mail App Subscriptions4. So, assuming you have understood everything I have stated and shown you so far,
Where does this leave us regarding Yahoo's programmed response to give me the option to unsubscribe
(rather than marking it as spam) ??* This Is Broken, starting with the known risk that some spam can slip through Yahoo Spam Filters - this spam did.
* Next, having slipped through the Spam Filters, YAHOO NOW TRUSTS THIS SENDER !
* Next, I MARK THIS EMAIL AS SPAM (but YAHOO IGNORES MY JUDGEMENT !! because...
* YAHOO sees an UNSUBSCRIBE link and ASSUMES I AM SUBSCRIBED to this spammer !!!
* Next, YAHOO pops-up the Unsubscribe option, and reveals Yahoo's blatant ignorance:"Want to stop getting emails from = = = "Mca-ffee" = = ?
We can help you unsubscribe from their newsletter so you won't get
emails from email@ggggggggggardeners.com anymore. Learn more (same link as above)[ Unsubscribe ] default action ! or [ Report as spam ]
5. So let's wrap-up the logic of what is happening here, So You Can Escalate This Issue to Yahoo Programmers:
* Users know how to Unsubscribe. We can Read and see Unsubscribe links. Don't belittle the customer.
* By suggesting Unsubscribe to something I just Marked as Spam, Yahoo breaks its own warnings:
Don't reply to unknown senders.
Never reply to email subscriptions asking to be removed.6. If Yahoo desires to continue presenting a pop-up when it sees an UNSUBSCRIBE link, I suggest:
"Want to stop getting emails from = = = "Mca-ffee" = = ?
< email@ggggggggggardeners.com >If the sender is unknown and you did not subscribe to this, click Report As Spam.
If you continue to receive from this sender in future, Block the Sender or Domain.
If you know the sender or subscribed to this e-newsletter, click Cancel and click
the Unsubscribe link at the top or bottom of the email to be removed from a list.[ Report as spam ] or [ Cancel ] Learn more
7. ESCALATE this ticket to Yahoo Mail software and user experience teams.

Yahoo Customer Care <customercare@cc.yahoo.com> wrote:
Hi,
From the screenshot, I understand what the problem is. This is because Yahoo leaves it to the user to decide if an email is considered spam or is just from a legitimate sender from whose emails the user decides to unsubscribe. ( WRONG ! )
Of course, this can lead to some mistakes from a more uninformed user, but someone can also say the lack of one of the options can lead to mistakes more easily. ( WRONG AGAIN !! )
Thanks a lot for your feedback. We really appreciate getting comments and suggestions to help us continue to make Yahoo better. In the future, you can let our product teams know directly on our feedback forum.
Thanks again for contacting Yahoo support.
Have a great day !Regards,

In addition to the sudden reduction in the quality of spam filtering a few months ago, Yahoo Mail is also filtering out messages I want in my inbox and sending them to the spam folder. Compounding this issue ... the messages don't appear for a few hours after they should have landed in my mailbox!
I've been thinking about switching mail services for years but, after seeing the content in this "Feedback" thread, I'm going to switch and get away from Yahoo's poor product and service. I should have done it many, many years ago when I first considered it!

Maybe a massive mail-in campaign to yahoo customer service might get someone's attention.
I tend to doubt it, bit it never hurts to try.
Just open up the obvious spam email, and FORWARD it to:Use whatever verbiage/message you want, but feel to copy/paste the following message:
Why does yahoo mail allow this OBVIOUS SPAM to end up in my INBOX instead of going DIRECTLY into my SPAM folder? If yahoo can't filter OBVIOUS SPAM, then why should I continue using yahoo mail? Do you recommend that I switch to GMAIL? If not, then why should I continue using an email that CAN'T filter out OBVIOUS SPAM???

This is OBVIOUSLY a BLATANT ATTEMPT by yahoo to discourage users from continuing to use the basic yahoo email service and make the users feel like they MUST UPGARDE to the PAID email service because of yahoo greed!!! yahoo is more interested in revenue than on customer service/satisfaction. MASSIVE INCOME from advertising is not enough, so the greedy company expects to enhance revenue by getting more money from their users.
I have written the following email to yahoo customer service (and I use that term lightly!) citing dozens of OBVIOUS SPAM EMAILS:
Why does yahoo mail allow this OBVIOUS SPAM to end up in my INBOX instead of going DIRECTLY into my SPAM folder? If yahoo can't filter OBVIOUS SPAM, then why should I continue using yahoo mail? Do you recommend that I switch to GMAIL? If not, then why should I continue using an email that CAN'T filter out OBVIOUS SPAM???Almost every response comes back with all the different ways that the USER can TRY to filter spams, and, of course, lists the option of UPGRADING to the PAID EMAIL program.
These SPAMS are so obvious that FIFTH GRADERS could program the yahoo computers to filter them out. But again, yahoo INTENTIONALLY chooses to focus on ADVERTISEMENT REVENUE and PREMIUM email revenue. Anyone notice that on your list of emails in your INBOX, yahoo has inserted what looks like an email, but in reality, they have SNEAKILY inserted an AD in hopes that the user will inadvertently click on that AD so yahoo could collect MORE AD REVENUE!
I've also written to them asking why I should continue using yahoo with this type of horrible filtering system. NO REPLY, OF COURSE!!!
I don't expect things to change because it's ALL ABOUT CORPORATE GREED!!!

I have noticed that a lot of the spam email previously identified as spam is making its way into the inbox. The McAfee notices, the Paypal notices, etc were all marked as spam but is showing up for about a month or so.

From the looks of it, either Yahoo is sending these emails or they are trying to force people to purchase the service. I have a gmail & hotmail account and there are never any spam emails sent to my inbox. And the crazy thing is even after being marked as spam, THOSE SAME EMAILS COME RIGHT BACK!! Then you have the audacity to say hit unsubscribe bc these are trusted emails. I will NOT pay for email. I will just stop using it and got completely to Gmail. Cause this is ridiculous!! I have more than 45 spam emails DAILY!! And even with this thread, they will more than likely not do anything about it. PLEAAAAAASE MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!

After reading all these comments,it's obvious that YAHOO is failing to do what they are supposed to do. I have the same problems with nasty, vulgar, emails that continue to come back after blocking . EVERY single day, same nasty stuff returns. I have at least 25 to 30 every single day. This is totally ridiculous. I am not paying for emails when I see on here that it is no different than regular mail . Plus non spam gets sent to 'spam'.!!!!! Do something!!! Hire people that know what to do!!!!.Dam this is getting awful!!!!

How hard can it be to algorithmically flag as spam messages with the header information?
"You have won an Makita Power Drill. . .
-Pending Package (1) <plaahubriokzvdxlqpwg@lkmikowxqjkcyvo.nec>"I receive dozens of variations of this every week. No point rejecting as spam or blocking the domain because they come from different randomly generated addresses, but all with same format.
I upgraded to the Yahoo Mail Paid version ($5/month) hoping it would offer some additional spam-blocking tools. But no. Called Support, spent an hour on the phone with a very well-meaning tech-support guy who tried to show me all the filtering, disposable email address, and domain blocking tools, only to finally acknowledge that there is nothing he could do to help with this problem.

AND STOP PROMPTING TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM SPAM !
YAHOO'S OWN SUGGESTIONS RECOMMEND AGAINST USING "UNSUBSCRIBE" FROM SPAM, YET, YAHOO CONTINUES TO ASK IF WE WANT TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM SPAM??Problem starts when the spam gets to the Inbox. Yahoo then TRUSTS THE SENDER and suggests UNSUB.

Yahoo mail is **** after all the years of using it. I keep getting more and more spam and Yahoo won’t filter it just trying to get people to pay for plus. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!

I have to concur with all the other posters: I get ZERO spam in my email account but easily 50 a day in my yahoo. When you unsubscribe from one all that does is tell them you have a valid email and you get more.
Not to mention when you add a filter, say for moya financial, yahoo deletes ALL emails with financial in the address or email. Meaning you lose all your banking emails.
I've had my yahoo mail for easily 20 years or more. If this keeps up I'm going to retire it.
