Improve Search WITHOUT lookup being needed
Search today relies on Lookup loading first and a ticker being selected. If you enter a ticker or company name and just press the search icon or enter BEFORE search loads. It is often not found or the wrong company is returned.
- Users should be both able to wait for Lookup loading and use it, but also just type a valid ticker in and press enter. To see the DRAMATIC different in search performance, go to https://www.cnbc.com/us-markets/ and use their Search Quotes search on the upper right corner of the page. First, lookup loads much quicker. Brilliantly, just clicking on the search box bringing up a saved list of your most recently viewed ticker. This Preload helps with lookup loading performance.
Second, if you just enter a ticker and press enter real quick, it finds it. This does not work on Yahoo Finance. It's very iffy whether Yahoo Finance finds the right ticker or not if you don't use the lookup selection.
Search and Search with Lookup selection should be two separate functions.
Search alone should be able to match to a ticker or compny name, and if an exact match is not found, it should not guess (for example, bringing up Ford when you type FB and press enter). In that case, it should return a list of potential matches for you to select from.
Basic search stuff. Hope you improve how it works. Please review the CNBC.com search.

Agree 1000%. A rookie in programming school could code it better than Yahoo. Example, I typed in PSTG, the drop down displays it but if I just hit enter I get PST. Why the **** would you not give me exactly what I typed???????
