Go to the masthead and to the LEFT of "Sign Out" there is 'Account Inf' - it is a drop down box; the bottom choice is "Go to old version".

Choose that and use the "GO" button on the right.
Just be aware, I have used that EVERY time I have signed in and Yahoo keeps changing it back.

I have tried this and it doesn't work. That is, it does restore the appearance of the Inbox to the old version -- but it does NOT restore important functions. I still can't use bold print in an email, or add regular or bcc recipients to an e mail by clicking from a sublist in my Contacts. I still have to scroll to the end of the single line of recipients in the "To" box to add each additional name, rather than clicking in an open multi-line box as before. When replying to a message, if I don't click "hide message", the old message pops up and covers my writing every time I add a character.... etc., etc., etc.
In other words, many of the functions that made Yahoo Mail simple and intuitive to use now seem to be gone forever. Yahoo wants us to go to the new version -- but given the multiple glitches and omissions in "Basic", I don't have much confidence in their ability to design a new version that will be trouble-free.
