Lots of QBs complete more than 20 passes in a game.
I don't see that as being particularly bonus-worthy.An error occurred while saving the comment Jim commented
I think that I need to change the wording of the last sentence of my Dec-19 comment on this suggestion.
I regret saying that a player who moves the ball nine yards on first-and-ten does more than a player who moves the ball one yard on second-and-one.
My error is: Short yardage specialists don't play on second-and-one.
They are likely on the field for third-and-one and for fourth-and-one, but they are rarely used on second-and-one because the team is generally going for more yardage than the minimum one yard needed for a first.
I'll try to think about comments longer before posting them in the future. An error occurred while saving the comment Jim commented
If the goal of the offense on second-and-one is to get a first down, then why do teams so often throw a deep pass in that situation (or any second-and-short situation)?
Plainly, the team expects that it can get a first down on third-and-one. So, it uses second-and-short as a good play to gamble with a deep pass or a screen pass or some other such higher-risk, higher-potential play.
The player who moved the ball nine yards on first-and-ten did more for the team than the player who moved the ball one yard on second-and-one. -

So, let's say the scores by the twelve teams in your league one week are: 87, 82, 78, 74, 61, 38, 37, 35, 33, 32, 29, and 26.
I think it would be stupid (with a great abundance of stupidity) to give the sixth-best score (38) credit for a win.An error occurred while saving the comment Jim commented
This idea has been posted multiple times. It's not a new thought.
And, it still doesn't really solve the problem. A team can have the sixth-best score several times. Another team that is a little better (and proves it by scoring more total points during the season) can have the seventh-best score several times. The result? The better team finishes below the lesser team.
Luck (or chance or whatever you call it) will always play a part. However, the better option -- the one that's easier to program in the computer and closer to fair for the best teams in the league -- is for every team to play every team each week.
Under the every-team-plays-every-team plan, a team which has the first or second highest scores a few weeks and the seventh highest score many weeks still finishes with a winning record, which it deserves. An error occurred while saving the comment Jim commented
Check out some other suggested rules changes, such as the each-team-plays-each-team-each-week idea.
With that rule, no bye weeks exist regardless of whether your league has an even or odd number of players.
And, it clearly ranks teams by how well they did over the season. An error occurred while saving the comment Jim commented
Hopefully, Yahoo will decline this idea and use the every-team-plays-every-team-every-week approach instead.

An excellent idea -- and it would end the need to have an even number of teams in head-to-head leagues.

I think the comments by "Me" on Dec.21 rather fully explains the actions that can be taken to solve this situation.

A better solution to this problem would be to have every team play every team each week of the season.
So, the week that you have the second-highest score in the league, you'll have one loss but a win against every other team.
This method is the way to fix the problem of easy schedules and hard schedules. -

Who makes first downs?
Giving a bonus for making a first down increases the points scored by the top players with little increase for average and below average players.
I'd prefer to see return yardage count as much as rushing, passing, and receiving yardage. That change would increase the number of players worth owning.
Dear Klondike, Thanks for noticing my comment back in Feb.
Please rest assured that I have no need for another silly medal.
