Yahoo!Groups has a very large user community who depend on it, often to provide very important services. When decisions are made on it's future, please consider this.

The web interface needs to modified in *quite small* ways so that it is more attractive to users than using non-Yahoo email products. This obviously was not the case immediately after the introduction of Neo. However, based on evidence from provided by Yahoo on this and other Yahoo forums, Yahoo was working diligently in this direction until roughly October 2014, just when they were getting close, serious development seemed to have stopped. There is still time to leverage the tremendous, revenue-earning potential of the product!

This is likely the only open, high profile issue on the group directory (category hierarchy). Yahoo seems to have no interest in maintaining the hierarchy. The vast majority of hierarchy nodes are not available for groups to be assigned to. There is no well defined process to maintain the hierarchy. (I can't recall that there ever has been one.)

It looks like the hierarchy has been largely abandoned. In the interim, moderators should ensure that their about pages include a reasonably large number of relevant search terms. Otherwise there is little hope that new groups will be found by prospective members.

It looks to me that there is an inherent problem with trying to force groups into a category tree. The problem is that for many groups there is no single place in the tree where they belong. (Is, for example, birding a branch of science or a recreational activity? It is both really.)

The category listing for many categories is incomplete. I don't know why.

I have also observed truncation on mouse over with longish UTF-8 subjects. Similar truncation occurs in subject lines in digests. Presumably very large non-UTF-8 subject lines will be truncated similarly.

This is the oldest suggestion that has not been visited by Yahoo and the second oldest extant suggestion. It is actually quite a good one. It suggests that moderators supply post keywords (taxonomy) and that moderators and should be able to add these to posts (users only to their own posts). It further suggests that users should be able to search by a set of keywords.

Finally it suggests that Yahoo Groups fix the long standing and long denied problem that searching by date doesn't work properly!

It looks like this is fixed at least for some of us. Yahoo has not yet done us the kindness of updating this suggestion. When they show us that they take our concerns seriously again, we can return the the task of helping them make Yahoo Groups better.

It looks like adding files to the mobile interface may have done this.

There is a general problem deleting/removing things: members, files, database rows, database tables, photos, and polls. I was able to delete an event.

I was able to delete a file, a link and a photo today. I haven't fully tested it yet.

I suppose the good news is that probably a developer was actually trying to fix something (something they have been doing very seldom lately), but broke this in the process.

This is reproducibly broken for me too. Hopefully the folks at Yahoo Groups will start paying attention to this forum again and fix this.

Then we can start re-raising the many bugs that they wrongly and unkindly closed. Perhaps by now Yahoo Groups developers are no longer (as they said) "unable to work on" simple and obvious bugs and deficiencies.

I have found that it takes many rounds of patient work to convince the Yahoo Groups folks that they have an easily reproducible and obvious bug. As noted things go into a black hole and the bug is never fixed.

It seems that Yahoo Groups abandoned this forum on Oct. 26th when they announced on this forum that they are "unable to work" on bugs. There are recent and small signs of improvement.

Hopefully Yahoo will start looking at things here seriously again and we can return to our work of helping them fix their product!

The problem messages as stored in the archive don't appear to be properly MIME encoded. The bodies of the messages do not display correctly. Presumably the original was 8-bit in the ISO-8859-5 or Windows1251 encoding. I don't see an obvious way to recover the original message from the archive since the characters displayed by "View Source" have been corrupted.

Presumably the folks at Yahoo Groups think they are doing us a favour by imitating Google searches. Sometimes, perhaps, they are.

Here's a funny one (an obvious bug - will they ever get quotes right?):

Showing results for "e;quick change"e;
Search instead for "quicktochange"

And worse:

Showing results for "e;quick to change"e;
Search instead for "quick to change"

Quoted phrases are seriously broken.

Hi pw berndt. This bug is easily reproducible using a Yahoo mail account with a test Yahoo Group and is clearly, at least in part, a bug with in Yahoo Mail. I have seen no evidence in about two months that anyone from Yahoo is pondering anything on this forum. If, however unlikely that may seem, they get around to paying this issue the consideration it deserves, they will discover and correct their error.

Somebody from Yahoo has incorrectly moved this suggestions from the Yahoo-Mail forum to the YahooGroups forum.

The suggestion was originally:

Another issue is that the scrolling doesn't work properly on narrow screens when one says that the answer was not helpful.

A link to the full-sized help would be most welcome. Luckily

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/groups

still works.

There is a "..." under each message that includes "Edit" in a drop down menu. Is that what you mean, pmorgan?

It is possible to add the extra lines. I can only do that correctly if I have model to work from (e.g., I can copy and paste from the original message in my notification).

This bug is originally for an error that prevents saving the edits of some (always rich text?) messages.

David A commented ·

It was recently pointed out to me that this problem can be associated with multiple fonts in a rich text message. At least sometimes, it is possible to work around by selecting a single font for the entire message while editing it.

Editing plain text messages is also a pain. They have been infected by a variant of the old message formatting bug (mashing the text into a single paragraph). There is a partial work around for that one: to copy the text in from the notification email and then editing. This however, duplicates each non-empty line.

Under the About page you should see a link labelled "Category:" That link should take you to your category under Browse Groups.

Note 1: Finding groups in by browsing the category is like finding a needle in a haystack. The best way to find a group is to search for it. The best way to make your group show up in searches is to put keywords on your About page.

Note that this is a bug even if the *file pathname* is restricted to a certain number of characters. The error message is wrong.

It is especially important to be able to find the memebers that have an override (unmoderated, moderated and non-posting) on the group moderation setting. A comment would also be useful for communication among moderator as you say.

I appreciate your effort to inform us of recent features. But wouldn't it make sense to do this in a place that is more accessible to the users you are trying to reach? Why not put a link to the group blog in the same place that you put the links to Suggestions and Help?
