I understand and concur. Perhaps in addition, you are mistakenly clicking the UNSUBSCRIBE pop-up when you mark an email as Spam. Here's my submission on that:

    Hello Yahoo Customer Care,

Let's try this again, because the answer below from "Yahoo Support", shows that they DO NOT understand the problem.

I am going to take this down to the most simple level of explanation that I can.
Please read every word slowly and carefully, then read it all over again.

    1. Yahoo usually sends this response to anyone making any mention of receiving spam:

"Getting unwanted emails or spam is frustrating. While most of spam emails are being caught by our spam filters, occasionally some can slip through.
When this happens, it’s very important to mark the email as Spam. More info here:

    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/manage-spam-mailing-lists-yahoo-mail-sln28056.html

    2. That link from Yahoo on managing spam includes the following recommendations from Yahoo:
    Don't reply to unknown senders.
Never reply to email subscriptions asking to be removed.
and that link also includes this STATEMENT FROM YAHOO regarding the pop-up OPTION TO UNSUBSCRIBE:

"When you mark a message from a mailing list as spam and we trust the sender,
you'll be given the option to unsubscribe rather than marking it as spam."

    3. Carefully review the attached screenshot of an email I Marked as Spam,
and Yahoo (1) trusts the sender and (2) assumes it's a subscription, and (3) pops-up the option to Unsubscribe

    PROBLEMS WITH THIS:

    * this is clearly SPAM and/or PHISHING
    * the Sender PRETENDS to be = = = "Mca-ffee" = =
    * the spoofed sender's email is email@ggggggggggardeners.com
    * the entire email content is an IMAGE designed to spoof and phish you
    * the Unsubscribe link in the spam email is bogus and will create more spam from the spammers
    * I am NOT SUBSCRIBED to this spam email - it is NOT LISTED in Yahoo Mail App Subscriptions

    4. So, assuming you have understood everything I have stated and shown you so far,
Where does this leave us regarding Yahoo's programmed response to give me the option to unsubscribe
(rather than marking it as spam) ??

    * This Is Broken, starting with the known risk that some spam can slip through Yahoo Spam Filters - this spam did.
    * Next, having slipped through the Spam Filters, YAHOO NOW TRUSTS THIS SENDER !
    * Next, I MARK THIS EMAIL AS SPAM (but YAHOO IGNORES MY JUDGEMENT !! because...
    * YAHOO sees an UNSUBSCRIBE link and ASSUMES I AM SUBSCRIBED to this spammer !!!
    * Next, YAHOO pops-up the Unsubscribe option, and reveals Yahoo's blatant ignorance:

    "Want to stop getting emails from = = = "Mca-ffee" = = ?
We can help you unsubscribe from their newsletter so you won't get
emails from email@ggggggggggardeners.com anymore. Learn more (same link as above)

    [ Unsubscribe ] default action ! or [ Report as spam ]

    5. So let's wrap-up the logic of what is happening here, So You Can Escalate This Issue to Yahoo Programmers:

    * Users know how to Unsubscribe. We can Read and see Unsubscribe links. Don't belittle the customer.
    * By suggesting Unsubscribe to something I just Marked as Spam, Yahoo breaks its own warnings:
    Don't reply to unknown senders.
Never reply to email subscriptions asking to be removed.
    6. If Yahoo desires to continue presenting a pop-up when it sees an UNSUBSCRIBE link, I suggest:

    "Want to stop getting emails from = = = "Mca-ffee" = = ?
    < email@ggggggggggardeners.com >

If the sender is unknown and you did not subscribe to this, click Report As Spam.
If you continue to receive from this sender in future, Block the Sender or Domain.

If you know the sender or subscribed to this e-newsletter, click Cancel and click
the Unsubscribe link at the top or bottom of the email to be removed from a list.

    Hi,
From your screenshot, I understand what the problem is. This is because Yahoo leaves it to the user to decide if an email is considered spam or is just from a legitimate sender from whose emails the user decides to unsubscribe. ( WRONG !!)

Of course, this can lead to some mistakes from a more uninformed user, but someone can also say the lack of one of the options can lead to mistakes more easily. ( WRONG AGAIN !! )

    Regards,
    Yahoo Customer Service
