Dear yahoo mail team,
I am going to de-install the yahoo mail app right when I am finished with that comment.
But before that I would like to inform you about my reasons.
First a few words about usability and customer service. Unfortunately there seems to be a tendency where many internet and software companies get an - imho - wrong idea aboput those two topics.
They try to 'think' for the user to anticipate problems he would run into and choices he would have to make - nothing wrong so far.
But then they start anticipating his choices or preferences and decide it for him, instead of providing him the chance to decide it by himself.
The message behind that is: 'We know better what you want (than you do yourself), so don't even bother trying to decide something - we have already done it for you.'
For instance you android mail app does not allow the user to set an interval for mail check. What if I simply don't WANT the app to check for new mails unless I open it, or press a button? Then I have lost - as you have already decided what I want!
You are not alone - Google does it, apple does it, many websites do it (for instance forcing the language of the country you live on you, instead of letting you a choice) and many others do it.
Come on guys - start taking your customers for serious and let them decide what they want by themselves - you are not 'Big Brother' - though you seem to be trying to.
To me that is unacceptable and so I leave.
I case you wanted to send a reply you can send it to: he_web@yahoo.com - for the time being.
Honestly - I doubt that this message will have any impact of some sort - but it feels good to state an opinion.
Good luck to you and have fun developing new apps ;-)
