Decrease fertility rate in SG
Honestly felt that one area that the Government can show good support and am sure we should definitely see an increased fertility situation.
With the decreased fertility versus increased ageing population, the former has resulted in parents especially the mothers reluctant to join the workforce nor increase productivity. It has somewhat hampered the increased growth indirectly. With lesser number of newborn, every child is the most precious hence lots of emphasis of their care and welfare.
Government can do with increased support for this group of women. One way is to encourage minimum 10% of work place to be set aside for infant and childcare. This would allay the fear of parents over their ward as their kids shall be under constant care and watchful eye of their parents at work. Government could consider to subsidize or absorb the increased costs to business for setting aside these facilities. More could be done to ensure that subsidize rates for child care and educational support programs within these facilities. This would create a pro family environment within all companies thus getting increased local workforce and at the same time it would significantly increase fertility rates whilst addressing manpower shortages that is currently experienced by the whole industry. Those companies who are willing to follow the guideline would see an increased pool of loyal and longer service employees with whom shall appreciate such facilities offered by them.
Frankly I think it should work and worth serious consideration by the Government. It's a win win situation for the Government and the people in general. Ultimately, it's meant to be good for the Country as a whole.
I am not too sure how I can get this message and suggestion across to the relevant authorities apart from my occasional comments.
