Expand "Revenue vs Earnings" section to show at least 5 quarters
Improvement proposed: Expand "Revenue vs Earnings" section to show at least 5 quarters. And, if possible, show even more.
Proposed benefits:
Showing 5 quarters (proposed) versus 4 quarters (current feature)
- Allow users to see at least one year-ago quarter to compare how revenue and earnings are doing this year, vs last year, e.g.: Q3 of 2025, vs Q3 of 2025
- Companies don't always show their annual revenue and earnings growth over back-to-back quarters, but this does show up in year-ago comparisons
- This would also let users answer questions like:
Is the company's share price, which we can see in the chart, growing because the company's revenue and earnings are growing? Or is it growing for other reasons (e.g. hype like the situation with GME, or possibly asset purchases like the crypto purchases MSTR engaged in)
Showing more than 5 quarters
- This lets users see an even larger number of year-ago comparisons, such that when they look at a 5-year view, they can see more of the year-ago comparisons to see where the growth is happening and what the share price is doing
Example ticker:
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/ARX.TO/
This is a Canadian Oil & Gas company. Its share price change, year-to-date, is just 2.84%, which is pretty flat. If I could see 5 quarters of results I could see if its flat share price is due to little revenue / earnings growth. Or, if I can see revenue and earnings did grow a healthy amount, it would tell me that the company's fundamentals are good, yet shareholders didn't reward the company with a higher share price.
In summary: 5 quarters would give your users more data to enable better analysis right from the ticker page. More than 5 quarters would allow even more insight and / or confirmation, since even just one quarter-to-year-ago-quarter comparison can also be a fluke.
