Dear Madam / Sir,
It was with shock and anger that I read on the Netwerk24 website the following article:
ReconAfrica, the Canadian company, is searching for oil and gas in the Okavango Delta.
‘Ryk ekostelsel só bedreig’ Deur Elise Tempelhoff 08 April 2021 20:17.
“The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is "deeply concerned" about the fact that the governments of Namibia and Botswana are allowing a search for oil and gas in the catchment area of the Okavango Delta, one of the richest ecosystems on earth.”
I work and live overseas, but I am still a South African citizen. I am shocked that these activities are allowed.
In the country I currently reside, there is a big Canadian community. They are mostly people concerned with the environment and I will start to mobilize them.
I myself will protest by not buying any Canadian products, and there are many on the shelves of retail stores where I live. I will also ask friends that are concerned about the environment in other countries where they reside, such as South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Korea, Britain and Germany to join me and spread the message of this horrendous situation.
I hope that you realise that protests start small but once they get momentum the damage can be great.
So, start to implement environmental policies that will save the Okavango Delta or face the consequences.
Greetings,
