Old mail
I have just logged into my Yahoo account for the first time in a long time. All my old emails are gone. I want them back!

If you did not sign into your account within 12 months the account is deactivated. Unfortunately, you will not be able to reactivate it or re-create the same email address. You can always sign up for a new Yahoo account.

Please allow users to restore email accounts. I log in using alternate methods but my account was still deactivated. Please assist with this as yahoo is my primary account for email.

Stop deleting 10 plus years of emails because you adopted a new policy, and refuse to even try to contact account holders to let them know of your new policy to delete all emails after 12 months of no login.

I've had a Yahoo Account for 20 years or around.
Email correspondence with loved ones who've passed away, memories of travels, and correspondence on creative projects.
I just logged in to my email account and found:
"Hurray! Inbox 0"
A punch in the gut, Yahoo.
I assume I didn't log in for too long, and years of data were deleted. I see no way to restore, and not even a mention of this event in the cheery UI.
No way to restore? Disappointed, to say the least. I won't trust Yahoo again.

Fix your email so that messages are not deleted. It should be up to the user not Yahoo. If there is space limit then a message should pop up.

I am really angry at the deletion of my old emails from my 20 year old Yahoo email account. I want them back, it is a valuable archive.

I just lost all the e-mailed files in a second account due to a health emergency trip abroad. NOT FAIR! I should be able to recover them, Yahoo should be able to do that, not simply delete them and that's it. It shows no respect to their users.

Not only was all of my data removed from my account without any warning whatsoever, but then when I asked about this your customer services representative was extremely rude. She offered no assistance whatsoever, just blamed me for not reading the terms and conditions and remembering them for 15 years since I signed up!
Not only is this appalling customer service, but this is also an abhorrent business practice. I've worked as a senior IT manager for over 20 years and this is the first time I've ever even heard of a company deleting customers' data without any prior warning.
It's an extremely simple solution to have a backup email account where such warnings would be sent, and this is standard practice for all other email/data service providers. Even the likes of Outlook implement this process as a matter of course, and for you to have nothing in place to prevent the deletion of every single byte of data in customers accounts (with no backup made to allow for retrieval) is a clear attempt to save money on server space.
I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't archive clearly inactive accounts, but warnings should be levied for several months beforehand, and the data should be backed up in low cost glacier storage for at least a year before being completely deleted.
You need to carefully consider your customers' requirements, otherwise myself and many others will be taking their business elsewhere.

Recently, I tried to remember what emails I've used when I'm applying a job at certain websites, after I tried to restore my account and they sent it to my yahoo mail, the yahoo themselves delete ALL OF MY EXISTING EMAILS JUST BECAUSE I'VE NEVER LOG ON FOR MORE THAN 12 MONTHS! I DON'T THINK THIS IS A RIGHT THING TO DO! PLEASE THAT'S ALL I AM ASKING FOR I CAN'T ASK THEM TO SEND BACK THE CONFIRMATION REQUEST!

I write emails to my daughter every year since she was born. The idea was when she became old enough to have her own email she would have this set up and she would have all of the funny stories and events of her life chronicled for her to read. I go in today to check to make sure I remember the password and stuff. and the inbox is empty. Years of memories written out, gone, in a virtual space, taking up so little space...gone. Glad I didn't die while she was super young where these would be the only words she would have to remember me by. Think Yahoo! Think! it couldn't have been more than 8-10 emails spanning maybe 1 written page each. Terrible. You can either find a way to retrieve these emails, or we will be moving her over to gmail. Terrible.
