I could not see any old inbox mail

I opened my email inbox address today, I found no mail there. In fact it was zero mail in all my boxes.please,what happened so as to prevent it happening next time

    I started with Yahoo Mail in 1998.

    Around the time Verizon took over ALL MY MAIL, PICTURES AND LETTERS FROM MY FAMILY WERE F@#$&ing ERASED. NO WAY TO RESTORE THEM. MY PARENTS DIED OVER THE LAST YEAR AND MY MEMORIES ARE ALL POOF GONE.
