What point does it serve? Unless you verify the accounts and have people post under their own genuine identity, what is the point? Grow up Yahoo and get rid of the comments. You're making the world a worse place. See Enders Game.

Isn't it ironic how many opposed to comment sections came here to make a comment.. LOL just another fine example of liberal hypocrisy at its finest...

Believe it or not, people enjoy objective conversations with other people with opposing ideas.. of course you can always stick your fingers in your ear and go na na na if other people's opinions offend you so...

The irony is that this suggestion is shared by someone who posted as anonymous

There are equally people who condemn it. Just as the vile side is spewing their hate, there are people who are spreading other messages. Certain stories will attract one type more than the other but for someone to say the whole thing should be done with while others are using it to combat the very thing your griping about should not happen because the comment section IS OPTIONAL. You dont have to use it or even see it unless you voluntarily push that button. Your experience is the same as long as you dont click. You can read the articles. Just because you dont feel it serves a purpose, others do. It's not forced on you KAREN

Thank you for ending comments, it grew to a place for vile, ignorance behavior to be on display! It’s news, not a political blog.

Agree!
RE: Gregario; while i appreciate the optimism of your point, in practice yhir rarely happens. This is not wikipedia, and the general public tends to gather information through second-and-third hand sources. Its like a game of telephone. Should they have something to add, send a politely worded e-mail to the editor so the article can be amended.
As it currently stands, the reactions section exists so racist and bigoted talking points can get upvoted; there are so few reasonable voices that the entire section is UNUSABLE.
Throw the trolls out, yahoo. Close the door on comments. This isn't a grand public square in which ideas are debated on the merits; its a zoo and somebody left all the cages open.

The comment section provides a medium to add to and correct information in articles. You don’t have to read it if you don’t want. The comment section is the reason many people use this site, it’s one of the few that hasn’t banned commenting and that’s a big part of the reason they see so much traffic. If something offends you, talk reasonably with the offender. If they sling insults, they’re idiots and their opinions are worthless anyways.

Please remove commenting. There is so much racism and hate being spread.
