A few days ago, I did a simple test on the largely empty Dodgers vs. Cardinals game board by posting the same short comment, over and over, each time it was deleted. After several rounds of posting and disappearing, an SF Giants poster with a long history of violating Yahoo's terms of service showed up, and made a snarky comment as a reply. This guy is a repeat offender with many multiple identities, and I believe he is the one behind the disappearing comments on the Dodgers boards. One of his screen names is Yeah So, but he also uses Bhitchdall, and a large number of other ID's, some of them spoofing other posters. He is also likely to use SFGDynasty as a screen name as they often appear together on the boards. Even a cursory look at the posting history of these screen names reveals numerous violations, and it is surprising that this guy has not been banned. I think that might be because most normal posters have muted him, which could also explain why he is angry and deleting the comments of others. Why does Yahoo allow these kinds of abuse to go on unchecked?

I agree with the comment below from POV. The best option would be to leave the mute function intact, but remove the ability to delete comments by reporting abuse. That would starve the trolls of the attention they crave, and shift the balance of power back to normal posters.

The deletions are continuing unabated on the new format Dodgers board as well. For all intents and purposes, this looks to be some new kind of denial of service attack targeting the new format Yahoo sports boards. This began with Yahoo's ill-advised introduction of GIFs, which allowed the trolls to unleash a torrent of obscene images that drove a great many regular users away.

Those Dodgers posters who fled to the old format Yahoo Canada boards are now being besieged there by some of the most extreme Giants trolls. With no mute button on those old format boards, the trolls are running amok there, but they have not been deleting messages. Perhaps they know that these actions would be easier to track on the old format. IMO, at least one of the mad deleters might be found among this group of multiple-identity trolls. It would be nice if someone at Yahoo would take a look at this and do something about it.

To the comment below re: a few posters with multiple ID's on Giants/Dodgers boards. I have long suspected that a lot of this is the work of one disturbed individual posting on both sides of the Dodgers/Giants rivalry. A lot of what you are seeing on the Dodgers/Giants boards are numerous spoof accounts of regular Giants & Dodgers posters, or spoof accounts from their mother, father, wife, husband, etc. It's hard for the casual observer to tell whether these accounts are real or spoofs. One way is to check the number of posts. The fewer the posts, the more likely it is a spoof account. Note: some legitimate Giants posters delete their own past comments so this is not always foolproof, but it is one indication. Another indication is an account with few posts that is dormant for months and then starts posting trolling comments again. Regular posters on these boards have had to learn this stuff as a matter of self preservation. A lot of posters have left the boards because of the trolls. Removing the mute option would turn those boards into an even bigger mess than they are now for regular posters. IMO, the solution to this is not to remove mute, which helps those who are trying to avoid the trolls, but to permanently ban the few posters who are responsible for the worst abuse.

This deleting has been going on on the Giants/RedSox board all day today 7/19/16. Often there would be zero posts on what is normally an active board. It has now (at 8 PM) begun happening on the Dodgers/Nationals Board as well. IMO, there is one very angry troll out there trying to destroy the ability for normal baseball posters to comment. First he tried spam, and when those posts were muted or reported, he escalated to deleting posts. It's hard to believe that Yahoo can't trace who this guy is. He's done this before. Last year, he did it during the playoffs, and I complained about it then. It is past time for Yahoo to ban this abuser for good.
