Re: Wonderful Country with no uniform Law. Metric System or Imperial
Canada has become a laughing stock in the world for selling Gas/Petrol fuel in liters (metric system), grocery in pounds (instead of Kilogram) and fabrics in yards (instead of Meters) in Imperial system. One country two systems.
I had a chance to visit Canada. As soon as crossed the border, I saw a sign with the speed limit 100 Km. While in the city of Victoria, I saw a sign at the gas station 141.9, which mean the cost of one liter of gas is about $ 1.42. While travelling by B C Ferries, I noticed the length of the vessel written as 121.3 meter. I understand that Canada has practically adopted the metric system (weight and measure). It means the official unit of weight in Canada should be kilogram or gram and for measure it is a meter or centimeter respectively. I guess that the students in the schools of Canada are also being taught the metric system of weight and measure (not the Imperial system) in their mathematics class. It is for sure that the Canadian students may not have any knowledge about the Imperial system of weight and measure (weight- pounds or ounce) and length-yard or inch (width, height and depth). Accordingly in Canada the use of Imperial system of weight and measure in business e g pounds and yards should be illegal and punishable by law.
I was surprised when I went shopping in Victoria and Surrey (British Columbia), I was forced to buy in pounds and yards as under: Thrifty Foods, James Bay, 475 Simcoe Street,Victoria, Guru Bazaar # 108 7928 128 St. Surrey, BC VW3 4E8 and Manohar Vegetarian Bakery 167-8120 128 Surrey BC V3W IRI. I understand that no country in the world officially uses both systems or a business is officially allowed to choose either of the two systems. One country one legal system, Imperial or metric.
Submission: I very humbly submit that your beloved country of Canada should officially use the legal weight and measure system of gram, kilogram and centimeter and meter and not pound and yard. A line in reply will be very much appreciated. Thanks.
With regards,
Sincerely
