Q5 is unreliable in Rural areas
I have been a supporter (paying customer) of Austar / Foxtel for over 20 years. During that time the services received and the support services provided were exceptional. However when forced to upgrade to the Q5 Box in early 2025 the service and its connected features have become unusable.
After many calls, the problem according to Foxtel's service department is my internet connection speed . It is said to be preventing the streaming services on the Q5 to perform at an acceptable level. By the way I connect to the Q5 via a dedicated WIFI connection to mobile phone services which has not changed in the last 3 years, but with the advent of the Q5 I am told today is the problem. .
This means that playback services or Foxtel streaming fails repeatedly. Additionally the App access advertised and provided via the Q5 is problematic. Please note that if the Apps are access directly by the TV or via a pad / computer then there is no problem. Problems ONLY emerge when the services are attempted to be used via the Q5 box.
If you are in a rural location it is my experience that you will have difficulties in using the advertised Foxtel services. Any attempts to have the situation resolved will be blamed upon the telecommunication suppliers. That is, the same services that worked previously.
If you wish to have part of the advertised services function and you are willing to pay full rate for the unreliable services then by all means proceed. If you not then you may wish to reconsider
