Feedback on commenting and moderation on Yahoo Sports

Brian Chambers commented
For 6 - 8 weeks now there have been no comments threads on any sports stories.. Also for about 3 months now it has been near impossible to address folk who reply to one's comments, on any topic thread. When clicking on the "reply to user-x" button in the received email, anew tab opens and the conversation in question flashes up for less than one second. And then the newest comments on that thread are displayed.

I used the phrase 'lmao' and got a 'your comment may hurt certain members of the community'
How the **** does that hurt anybody? JFC, the moderation around here has become an utter joke.

yet again, another comment left was determined "against community standards" when it didnt violate ANY of your supposed "community standards" Not one. It wasnt even a comment directed at anyone other than the referees of the nfl, which is what you article was about. Maybe it was because i was critical of the exact same group that the article was criticizing? You can take your comment sections and shove it. I am done with this ****. I can also find another search engine and news source. Yahoo definitely isnt the only game in town.

why do you allow communist, fascist and unAmerican comments from Trump cultists and Russian bots to be posted, but any REAL AMERICAN makes a comment you delete it?

Robert Kriegar commented
The comments you allow on your news articles are horrendous. Odd that you only block those who give it right back

you are right Deion. You couldn't fit into Len Dawsons jacket. Youd have a hard time carrying his cleats.

I hope this will get to your developers who create and maintain the comments sections of your news stories. The Comments section is a great idea, but it is poorly designed. Your developers are using client-side script to load the comments and they are swamping my computer. I have a moderately powerful Dell laptop. If it's a problem for my computer, it's a problem for most people. On a regular story it works pretty well. But on a story with a lot of comments the scripts try to load so much incoming data that the page locks up and never finishes loading and I can never post a reply. I watch my Task Manager in Windows and the browser Memory reading goes from about 1.5 GB normal to about 3.5 GB when it's trying to load comments from this story (link below). You need to re-design that process to be less burdensome on the processor. Another problem is that I stay logged into Yahoo all day, but after about 10 minutes of not reading Comments it logs me out and I have to reload the page to be logged in. And another problem is the Comments section usually doesn't load at all the first time and the Retry button does nothing. I have to reload the page to see comments. I have tried this page in multiple different browsers: Chrome, Edge, and Firefox and the same problem happens in them all. The page with no comments load OK, but with comments it's a slog. Do your censors understand their own guidelines? It amazes me what they let stand (offensive, racist, biggoted, abusive, inflammatory sorts of comments), yet they regularly remove comments that are COMPLETELY benign, with absolutely no explanation or clue of how it violated your guidelines. It's honestly baffling to me. I have read your guidelines closely. You ought to make sure that your censors have so they know what their purpose is. Otherwise, I think that they may just be deleting random comments just so that they look 'busy' and keep collecting a paycheck or something.

Rick Stallard commented
Stop all comments. It is a cesspool of hate, racist talk and serves NO purpose.

I just submitted the most mundane, average, comment having to do with Kendrick Perkins that was censored by Yahoo. There was absolutely nothing out of line and/or in conflict with my comment, unless yahoo thinks proper, intelligent expressive writing is a VIOLATION. Yes, it's small potatoes, but the arrogance in Yahoo is getting worse and worse, and there is nothing worse than knowing I am completely in the right and "playing by Yahoo's rules" yet still get censored. HELP ME OUT YAHOO, PLEASE POINT OUT MY TRANSGRESSION because I do not see it. Probably because no transgression exists with my comment. C'mon Yahoo, this egregious and arbitrary censoring is totally out of line and wrong on your part. There is nothing at all wrong with what I wrote and if you put my comment in front of 100 readers, 99 would agree with me, and the Yahoo censor would be the only one who did not !

Tom Calarco commented
Let's stop the censorship. It a move back after all the gains that have been made in the last 50 years thanks to people like Lenny Bruce and George Carlin.
-
Tom Calarco commented
And I should also say this is ******* ridiculous, a bunch of ******** running the Internet. I know I am sick of it. I hope more people will put in their two cents because no one likes it. And I was censored for using much milder language.

RE: Commenting. You won't even allow "soft" profanity. Stop treating adults as children. The censorhip is out of control

Asad Khan commented
You now based an entire post on 'ONE' word, and determine it's inappropriate. What kind of 'comment' feature does that? I will look for another outlet, and until you change this absurd censorship, I will not be back. COWARDS

At one time, I could click on the alert that told me someone had commented on or liked my comment, and it would take me to my comment, or at least to the article. Now nothing happens when I click on the alert. Please bring that function back. Thanks!
