From a 21 year acct holder - App Specific Passwords Are Broken Again! - Bring Back Less Secure App Support!
App specific passwords are again broken for OSX mail version 4.6. I first reported this on April 12, 2020. At that time just the sending part was broken. Now both receiving & sending are broken. This started 5 days ago (~May 8th) and remains broken across more than one account. In April they managed to fix the sending problem and it worked fine for weeks till now. Generating a new App password doesn't correct the problem
History - I have had this account for 21 years, 9 months and 14 days or over 261 months since July 31, 1998. I rely on less secure apps due to hardware required for legacy software support.
Yahoo never sent me an email stating it was turning off support for less secure apps with an implementation date. Other Yahoo accounts were working fine being accessed with less secure apps even without the app specific password till 5 days ago. Yahoo - has been applying changes in hidden and uneven ways to various accounts.
Again Yahoo implemented a change without actually testing it for full functionality before going online to the public. Another poor management decision and business model. Send me an email and let me test changes to app specific passwords before you put them online... I will assist you for free. I used to work for Aldus before Adobe bought them out.
Yahoo mail began in 1997 and gmail began in 2004 - The seven year head start didn't seem to help that much. Probably due to making changes without verifying they actually work, beta testing proposed interface and feature changes with paid for end-users for usability evaluation BEFORE putting changes out to the masses is what is needed.
These unannounced changes has killed the workflow that has worked seamlessly for decades.
Yahoo breaks things for users under the guise of security meanwhile - their own house is responsible for many security breaches - 2016 password hacking comes to mind etc.
The code for turning on less secure apps has already been written - just turn it back on!
GMAIL STILL SUPPORTS IT WHY CAN'T YAHOO?
THE LACK OF COMPETENT TESTING OF THE SOLUTION *BEFORE PUTTING IT ONLINE FOR USERS TO SUFFER IN THE DISCOVERY IS A BAD BUSINESS DECISION.
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT BREAKS THE SENDING OF ANY AND ALL EMAILS.
The app specific password broke last month AND then again this month. Is this going to be the NEW YAHOO BUSINESS MODEL?
