ESPN does it and it's a far superior option to having point bins. For example, I like to do a system where each person starts with 12.5 points and has -0.25 per point scored against, and -0.02 per yard scored against. This creates a smooth scoring curve instead of having arbitrary point bins that don't make any sense
Additionally, having 1 point awarded for fumbles forced and 1 point awarded for fumbles recovered also helps reward defenses that cause fumbles, which is more consistent than recovery.

This is a huge improvement. I do a system on ESPN where I start with 12.5 defensive points and each point against docks -0.25, while each yard against is -0.02. It creates a smooth scoring curve instead of having dumb scoring bins.
