Same problem here. I've been asked to log multiple times. Most of the time it doesn't appear at all like I actually have logged in after I enter my username and password. Occasionally, it appears to take and I can attempt to post, but then it shows me some captcha when I do, and then it just says "undefined" and doesn't post.

I've noticed this a number of times.

    Most recently on:
    https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20190507200040AAdyfYP

It shows up on my answers:
    https://answers.yahoo.com/activity/answers?show=O5PQVXC6J5QTH5E6J44BYKTRRM&t=g

I imagine it could have something to do with anti-spam measures. But, I was attempting to post the number and website of the suicide prevention hotline to someone who had mentioned thoughts of suicide in their question...

I get there's a lot of spam. But, all links and/or phone numbers aren't always spam. I'd much rather something like this not go through at all than allow it to go through making the answerer think someone might see it, but in reality they can't.

Agreed. We’re working on a new moderation system, including appeals.

Then the spambots would just be updated to start posting random words from the dictionary. There are programs out there that can even construct complete sentences. They're gibberish, but they still follow subject-verb agreement. So, I think you need something a bit more sophisticated.

One option would be stronger community moderation. But, then that also becomes a venue for abuse. I highly doubt Yahoo would invest in hiring a full time staff for moderation.

I think the best options might be CAPTCHA's and other occasional human-friendly bot-unfriendly tests, like, what letter is this, accompanied by a bunch of dots forming the rough outline of a letter, similar to what you might see in a color blindness test, but minus the dots that aren't part of the actual letter.

Yep, there appears to be a new rash of spambots afoot.

Just look at the answers to this question.

    https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20181231063642AAFrxI4&page=1

There are a bunch of users with random character names posting random character answers on many questions. They all also are posting Chinese spam as questions.

There are ways you could do it. For example, have a question that would only show up for a user when they're logged in and not on the question asker's blocked list.

This is a good idea. Askers should use the “update” function, not the answer function on their own questions. I suppose there is a use case where askers find the answer to their own questions and want to share it. I’ll have to do more research on this matter.

We plan to allow the blocking of anonymous people in the future. Expect anonymous answering to go away, expect anonymous asking to stay.
