I think a different color behind the disguised ads would do the trick. Like black so you don't have to even look that hard to notice its an ad and not actual news.

Press control and scroll with the mouse wheel till you get to a size you can read.
It works with almost all web sites as well. -

Install an adblocker, so much better than 40% or more of the page being ads.
Just use an adblocker on sites that can't figure out how to place ads. You can always whitelist a site that you feel deserves the ad revenue.
