This article states several things that confuse the issues and the responsibilities of The Federal and State agencies that have to deal with California's Federally owned lands. The US Forest Service is responsible for the maintenance of Federal land in California. The state does not control the maintenance of Federal lands. Also there are not 10,000 US Forest Service Firefighters in the State of California. The article at best is completely misleading. The state's own fire agency CalFire is the lead agency responsible for management of the majority or wildland fires in California, even those on Federally Managed Land. The entire 2018 budget for The US Forest Service was $4.7 Billion which included fire management and maintenance for EVERY National Forest in The United States. (source: USFS Web 2018 budget highlights). CalFire on its own was budgeted by The state of California at $2.3 Billion for 2018. Please have your producer better research her biased reporting. The US Forest Service does not have the equipment or the manpower to control the massive wildfires we have seen here and in other states. They do not employ 10,000 fire fighters in California. Their hazardous tree removal and water tender crews and bulldozer operators for fire fighting are all done by contracted crews. The US Forest Service hasn't employed these kind of people in 20 years. The next time you want to place such an untruthful article on your site perhaps you should talk to some people that have actually been using the forests in California for the last 50 years.
