why is my map preset to st albans vermont?

Click and drag for alternative route only pans screen.
When attempting to adjust to an alternate route (by hovering mouse on the highlighted path in the map) where i would like to adjust the route a message appears to click and drag but only allows me to pan the screen. No option is given to toggle between selecting to click & drag and panning the map. There is no difference weather I am zoomed in or way back. If using the same selector (action / event) for both there needs to be an option to toggle between the two to be functions.

why can't i do general maps?
i can't just put in jackson, wy to yellowstone south entrance. it says south entrance is spelled wrong but it was an auto fill suggestion to begin with. online maps are terrible since they were changed from years ago. i have to have the name of a business or hotel, i just cant get a map to go from one city to the next ... and THEN look for hotel. how am i to know the mileage and time from one destination to another. mapquest, yahoo maps, google ... all of them are terrible.
