[Public Leagues] Default settings feedback
General feedback for default league settings in Public Free and Public Prize Leagues.

I'd like to see them get rid of some of the roster spots and adopt something more like the NBA reality:
1 position each for: PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G/F, PF/C, Util, and 6X Bench & 3X IL.
Then allow players listed as "out" to be placed on the IL along with the other IL eligble players. Reduce the number of starters on fantasy rosters. It makes the teams feel more like an actual NBA game rotation with a bench mob.If Yahoo made the Start/Sit decision require more thought, it would be far more fun to play.

Fantasy Basketball Public Prize leagues need to have IL+. Why even introduce IL+ if you don't use it? 3 IL slots are useless because Yahoo takes forever to give players the injured tag. Incredibly frustrating

Reflect the modern NBA by getting rid of the 2 centers requirement, and require 2 point guards instead. Every team needs a backup point guard. You can do this by using SG/SF "wing" and PF/C "big" flex positions, instead of G and F. It would look like this: 2 PG, 1 SG, 1 SF, 1 SG/SF, 1 PF, 1 C, 1 PF/C, 2 UTIL, 3 BN, 3 IL.

Terrible that you changed the standard to points over categories. I was blindsided by this because it has been categories forever. I'm now stuck in a league that I don't even want to play.
-
Dietrich Motto commented
I like "category" leagues, but the default is now "points", which I've never even played before. I would have tried "points" in a couple of leagues to see how it works, but mostly stuck with "category", which I like and know how to play.

Yeah, it's me that's the commissioner and there's no way for me to be biased. The trades are voted on like public league settings, I have no powers beyond creating the league. It has deliberately been set to the classic 12 team 9 cat ruleset, and everyone can view the settings themselves to verify that I have no powers to be impartial. Also, as James mentions, we are seeking to run these leagues annually with many of the same active players returning, so trying to cheat in any way would be hugely counter-productive (and pathetic, obviously!)

I can vouch for the leagues posted by Simon below. I have been playing fantasy with him for a few years now and the league settings are exactly the same as the old default 9 cat roto settings. There is also scope to re-run these leagues every year in the future if people want to continue. 5 spots and 1 spot left - please join / share to active managers only to ensure competitiveness

Sorry, but those can't be trusted because the commissioners are never impartial. I would really like to play, but it looks like this site is out for me. Good luck to you all.

@Scott JeongCustom leagues running with last year's numbers and rules etc if you want to join and we can all undo the insanity together!

To all here: they have no intention of changing the default settings back. They remove all the new ideas from the users, but I asked and they said this was the new default. It's a real shame. Anybody know of any good replacement sites?
-
Scott Jeong commented
Please set the default to 12 Teams, and give ability to choose between 9 Cat H2H or Roto. Changing the default to 10 Teams, 6 Cat H2H is really negatively affecting user experience, especially given you can't change these settings anywhere to join a public league instantly.

12 team default roto leagues have worked well for many years - the change to 10 is not a welcome one. Long term loyal players look forward to preparing for 12 team drafts and selecting potential gems with latter picks. This gives the game greater depth and a much needed skill / knowledge gap. The waiver changes hamper non-US players greatly. The time lag with FAAB evens the playing field for global players of the game who are not able to be awake for actual live NBA games. As a UK player myself, this is a huge step backwards for attracting and retaining non-US accounts. I strongly urge you to reconsider the above changes. Many thanks

10 team default leagues are a horrific mistake. It dumbs the game down into ESPN levels. Also same with ditching FAAB wire moves. You have been the most popular platform by far for about 20 years, now you want to destroy your loyal fanbase?

Absolutely hate the "new" 10 team leagues whereas it always used to be 12 team leagues. I mean I really hate it, makes no sense to change it and it will drive people away from the Public leagues that much is guaranteed. Absolutely moronic decision, whoever is in charge of making decisions like this one is just plain dumb, real dumb-dumb!!!

Supposed to be 12 teams in public leagues.

12 team leagues better than stupid 10

Allow waiver adds directly into open IL spots, just like standard public Yahoo NFL fantasy football allowed for the first time this year.
Allow O (Out) players into open IL spots, just like standard public Yahoo NFL fantasy football allows.
High # of O (Out) injuries every day, extremely frustrating to manage, zero fun - we need a lot more flexibility.
Allow trades to be offered and received even with invalid players in your IL slots.
Allow players who are ruled Out but technically start for you to be able to be dropped immediately / same day - in addition to being immediately IR eligible, whether "started" or on your bench.
Edit 2/1/24:
Change 2 Center and 2 Utility starter requirements to 1 Center and 3 Utility. The Center position is thin, difficult to manage and fill with barely average quality players, and the Center position is increasingly devalued in the modern small-ball-Center basketball era. Plus other platforms made this change 10+ years ago (e.g. ESPN).
