When young, during the early-70s, life’s circumstances permitted having a eight-inch monotone television from Sears. It set on a small chest of draws. Which was on the western wall of my bedroom. When, I was near Kindergarten age.
Besides, the Wonderful World of Disney's capturing my imagination along with Hanna Barbera and Looney Tune cartoons. I often watched Star Trek, a Desilu production, on NBC and Nova on PBS. From which, a love of mathematics and the sciences developed. And, it was discovered during those years that PBS broadcast often mirrored the lessons had the next day in elementary school. So, it prepared me well. And, I did outstanding work rating as an outlier on the California Achievement Test during fourth grade in the ’79 –’80 academic year.
While, watching a particular episode of Star Trek, Captain Kirk told Scotty that he should activate the warp drive. And, that droning sound which was always associated with that engine starting was heard. And, I asked the Creator how might warp drive work. And, the following thoughts formed in my mind.
• I had learnt from NOVA that like ends of a permanent magnetic will repel.
• I had also learnt from NOVA that one might block a magnetic field with a shielding material.
• I dawned upon me that, if one shields the magnetics, brings them in close proximity, and then removes the shielding material; they would fly apart.
• I also became apparent that the energy required in bringing them near one another would not be as great as the energy they generated. When, they repelled.
One set of facts that had not been learnt at that time was Newton’s three primary laws of motion. So, I did not know that that could not be done.
Since, those years that idea has been shared at times. So, an engine or an generator based upon that basic concept and principle might already be patented. If, building one is feasible and practical. At times, one’s intuition does not hold water. When, one builds a prototype. Most notably, this notion on efficient energy generation was shared during physics courses in secondary school and college. It was shared with instructors and students. Life has shown that information and ideas travel rapidly through the international network of research scientists. This was true well-before the world wide web became widespread during the mid-90s and the Internet entered academic environments during the early-80s. Colleagues have always been a short telephone call or brief letter away. So, an novel and original idea shared in the American Heartland might reach Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, or other distant parts of the world in only a few minutes or days. And, since it has been frequently shared since the 70s. You might already have this. It simply has not been made public and become widespread. Because, it would be so disruptive. Which would not be surprising.
The university was started as a physics major; however, life’s circumstances drove me from that niché. So, this idea was never investigated as a engineering or physics doctorate. As, many bright individuals know those around them who do not see themselves as having similar ability often cause trouble and disrupt one’s efforts and pursuits. That is life. That is normal people. Life eventually afforded a pair of post-baccalaureates, one in computer science and the other in software engineering. They were only permitted because my barriers were at awe with computing and thought that it would not be attainable for me. So, they allowed the initial studies without any great intentional interruptions. And, with sufficient momentum gained, degrees were reached. Albeit, it was quite a struggle. It was not the subject matter. It was the individuals who were part of my life. Life is not easy. When, one is hated, in general, by the majority and his own community because he is bright, inquisitive, and giving.
However, that is of little importance. What is key is that a PBS broadcast was seen on January 15, 26 concerning the future energy demands from data centers and manufacturing plants in America. It was shared that that need might eclipse the current energy usage of the entire country of France in the coming years. Based upon, the projected energy usage of such facilities. Upon viewing that, this idea resurfaced in my mind while talking with someone about life and past contributions this morning, the 16th. So, I thought that I might share it again with some organizations who might value it. Because, it has never been said by any of my physics instructors or mentors in the sciences that it was not and would not be a useful or feasible strategy for storing and generating energy.
It was said during that broadcast that the current presidential administration is cancelling renewable energy projects and advancing oil exploration and production. Truth be told, a blended and balanced mixture of energy sources, generation approaches, and engine types is best. One must diversify for stable and sustained growth. Like, he does with the stocks in his retirement portfolio. Then, we might be an energy rich nation.
Life has shown that sharing ideas is better than hording them. It is like passing the ball or shuttle in a team sport. He who passed the idea will not likely be the one who advances it or who scores. But, the goal is that the team wins. And, life is best lived as a team sport. As, it has been said teamwork makes the dream work.
Most of the original ideas which I have shared over the years have profited many. Some have won prestigious awards, like a Turing, when advanced by others. And, some have saved lives, like Nicorette. Of which, I am most thankful considering that He used me that way.
So, this idea is shared with your organization in hopes that you or someone else might build a worthwhile prototype. If, it is feasible and practical.
