Subject: Misleading and Harmful Framing of Angel Reese in Exit Interview Coverage
To: sports-feedback@yahooinc.com
Dear Yahoo Sports Editorial Team,
I’m writing to express concern over your recent coverage featuring Isis Young’s commentary on WNBA exit interviews, specifically the decision to pair her quote with a solo image of Angel Reese.
This framing is misleading and unjust. Angel Reese’s exit interview was canceled by the Chicago Sky and league-approved. Meanwhile, two of her teammates—Ariel Atkins and Courtney Vandersloot—also skipped exit interviews. Additionally, the entire rosters of the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty opted out. Yet none of these players or teams were visually or editorially spotlighted.
Using Reese’s image in isolation reinforces a harmful double standard, especially given the volume of misinformation and targeted criticism she faces as a young Black woman in professional sports. The choice to center her in this narrative—while omitting context and other players—feels less like journalism and more like clickbait at her expense.
You are completely aware of how this looks on her. It reinforces negative, hateful, and bigoted comments toward Angel Reese—and you chose indifference over integrity for clicks. Shame on you for further deteriorating the public image of Angel while she's chasing greatness, just to feed engagement metrics. Shame on you. It's not you all having to deal with the negativity that comes with this - you all have the privilege of walking in your privilege not having to deal with the vitriol and outright racism this causes.
I urge your team to reflect on the impact of this editorial decision and consider issuing a clarification or update that presents the full picture. Fairness and accuracy should never be sacrificed for engagement.
Sincerely,
Mike Watts
