Increase coverage of MotoGP
I found it very disappointing that there was not nearly enough coverage from the media about the Japanese MotoGP race on the weekend. Only in specialised racing news outlets. The year has been full of drama, and Marc Marquez clinched the championship 5 races before the end, after dominating this season, and marking arguably the greatest comeback in sport history. After dominating the 2010s, his career was nearly ended by a crash in the first race back in the chaotic 2020 COVID season, but he lived through the following hellish years until he moved into the factory Ducati team.
The weekend had also marked the sudden comeback of Francesco Bagnaia, who had unexpectedly been struggling all season after he was expected to be the main contender to the championship, and the return of Joan Mir, who ended up winning the title of 2020 but lost his form since. So 3 champions on the podium comeback. The headlines of this topic were huge. Instead, I saw little to nothing in mainstream outlets—just more of the usual filler content.
Aside from this, MotoGP is the sister sport to F1, the top for 2 wheels. So for this alone, shouldn’t it get high media coverage comparable to other sports?
I have been a F1 fan, and only recently got more into MotoGP. I now realise how much I missed simply because it wasn't visible in the media. It never interested me to this degree even though I knew about it. Mostly motorcycle fans were into it. Ironically, F1 stars are often huge MotoGP fans themselves, for example there are rumours Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are interested in owning MotoGP teams. But Marquez’s talent has gotten my attention. Sorry for the long-winded letter, but there are plenty of headlines to make, and I believe more people would become interested if they saw more of it in mainstream media.
