all the backgrounds are too dark and the white background is too bright
provide some pastel coloured backgrounds which are more restful on the eyes, particularly for more elderly users!

Completely agree. The harsh bold contrasts offered by new options make it difficult for me to look at the text in my inbox. Pastel backgrounds make it easier to read. I might have to change to another service provider. Looking at the comments I guess gmail might be a better option. Better still just revert to old classic mail.

Agree with those proposing the classic mail was better and that the white background is too bright and dark background too dark. I don't like colors just a real medium dark for the mail section (similar to the shade on the left in the catergories' sectionb.

The message box it;s either too dark (black) or too bright (white). It's an uncomfortable high-contrast situations. add a pastel soft background like gmail does!

And yes, please make the black a true black and not dark grey.

My post got lumped with others and admin posted how to change the THEME. But the only background option for incoming mail notification is bright white or total dark with white text. These are not great options for my eyes. I agree that pastel behind the incoming list would work best which is why I keep trying to return to Classic for the pale blue shading it offered for incoming notification. Please, Admin folks, try to understand that this is not about THEME which is on the left side and top. I don't care about that but I want to be able to SEE the incoming mail list. Clearly this new bright white/all dark option was designed by a teenager! Help!

New color options are too garish. Please give us some paler options, pastel colors, or grey or lilac which are easier on the eyes!

The "Themes" are TOO DARK! And when choosing a theme choice (Light, Medium, Dark) the Light and Medium are TOO white behind the inbox!! PLEASE I would like the 'old' Themes back...MUCH easier on the eyes for contrast. Thank you!

Another thing, while you are making the colors better, change the font color back to pure black. Greys are too light and the font you are using is WAY TOO SMALL TO READ!! Stop "fixing" things and put it back the way it was so we can actually use it!

Background colors are much too dark and/or bold. It actually hurts my eyes. Please give us a softer option. Gross oversight imho.

I want my email list to have a pale yellow background. That is easier to read with my poor eyesight. Please accommodate us without perfect eyesight

remove "view" folder or make choice part of settings. Allow US the ability to choose to remove so that folders move up. Allow us to choose not to "Star" items and make choice permanent for US.

why can't we have plain background? All i want is something to tone down the glaring white; a pastel shade to reduce the glare. But no, now we have to have fancy patterns and sh*t that do my eyes in even worse than getting snowblind.
And in Classic style, I had the whole height of the screen to work in; the tabs would scroll up out of the way. now they stay put, always in the way, and allow me maybe a half to three-fifths of available screen space. This is "progress"?
Let those who want and can use fancy stuff have it. Let those of us who can't have the plain, simple, USABLE old style. -

PLEASE provide a background that is not bright white or black. Your "medium" just changes the edges not the reading pane. I keep switching back to classic for this reason.

The Colour options available under themes/backgrounds are too limited. They are either too bright or too dark. With the medium setting the outside border is much too dark and the white under the emails to much too bright. Grey-tones with black text (just like you have here on your feedback page) is more restful on the eyes. There is too much contrast making the information difficult to read and process. I kept with the Classic layout because of the gradients offered. It made the page easier on the eyes which means I stayed on the page longer rather than just using my phone or using an external email client.

please tally all of the complaints about brightness into 1 category, this will probably move this item up to one of the major problems. If you give us a slider for darkness-brightness that would solve your problem and ours.

The old themes where better and more flexible and easier to read the mailbox. These cause the mailbox to be too dark or too light

The background where the list of your emails is shown is way too bright but the "dark" choice is too dark. Could you offer an option to have a colored background, so that we can choose the contrast ourselves? The "light" "medium" and "dark" is just not enough. Thanks

The brightness options allow for two bright options (light and medium) and one dark option, which is too dark.
Just supply an option to tone down the bright white like everyone is asking for.
What good is a feedback panel if everything is ignored?
