I GOT THIS REPLY TO AN EMAIL I SENT TO YAHOO INC REGARDING BRINGING BACK "CLASSIC MY YAHOO." NOTICE HOW CAREFULLY YAHOO WAS LISTENING (II.E., I NEVER MENTIONED YAHOO MAIL. THIS IS NOT HOW REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE WORKS!:

Here's a thought . . . would we be willing to pay a monthly fee to get our Classic My Yahoo back?

I know I would. I'd hate paying, but I would love to get my old page back even more. Let's say $6-10 a month, kind of like Hulu Plus or Netflix. If anybody at Yahoo is reading our posts, run the idea up the flagpole and see if any management folks salute.

    Anonymous commented  ·

Hey folks, let's not forget that Yahoo is "GATHERING FEEDBACK" - and they have been for, oh, several months without making any improvements. Come on Yahoo!!! It can't be too hard to fix these egregious faults. I wonder . . . is gathering feedback anything like gathering moss? Yikes!

    Anonymous commented  ·

Would Yahoo listen if we offered to PAY them to bring our Classic My Yahoo back?

I'm thinking of a nominal monthly subscription service with a charge of, say $5-10 per month (around the cost of Hulu and Netflix).

Those Product Support people at Yahoo should cheer this constructive, revenue-producing idea. If they read it, that is.

So folks, what do you think? Worth clamoring for?

HOW TO MAKE NEW MY YAHOO BETTER - CONSTRUCTIVE IDEAS

Okay, the changeover to the New My Yahoo has happened and it's not going back to the Classic. So - what steps can Yahoo take to make the new experience better?

    1) Offer more themes (dump Joe Buck), including a retro-classic look.

    2) Let consumers choose font color.

    3) Give us a choice on layout that allows 3 columns set up as: narrow - wide - narrow.

    4) Reduce the size of some of the modules. Weather takes up way too much space (mainly because the fonts are too large), and there is a lot of wasted space on Stocks.

    5) Fix Weather module so that Auto Detect Location can be turned off. Right now the lead location is "Montana," which is fine because I live in MT. But this is the 4th largest state in the U.S., so an average weather report for the entire state has nothing to so with my region in the Northwest. As I write there is a 10-degree difference between "Montana" and "Kalispell."

I'm really glad you decided to put "hover over headlines" back. Great feature.

So, we're stuck with this new design. Let's all try to make it better. Deal?

    Anonymous commented  ·

This new My Yahoo is seriously flawed, amateurish, virtually no ability to customize (some of the themes are downright stupid and are an affront to good taste and usability - Joe Buck? One of Marrissa's favorites?). Site is now pretty much worthless.

I've set up Protopage and uStart pages and will flip back and forth between them until I decide to settle on one. Not quite as good as my Classic My Yahoo, but leagues ahead of the new Yahoo version.

    Anonymous commented  ·

I'm switching to Protopage. I've got it to look mostly like my Classic My Yahoo, even down to the colors.
The headline hover feature now removed from the New Cruddy My Yahoo, is available on Protopage.
They do not offer a widget for the New York Times Dining & Wine section, but I discovered I could grab the URL from the Times site and import it into Proto - that was a nice surprise.
I also modified the weather to add a proper looking Accuweather module by going to Accuweather Apps and copying the HTML for a better widget and pasted that into a "User Added Widget.
So I'm ready to motor away from Yahoo into a Brave New World.

See above UNDER REVIEW - I went to the YAHOO ANSWERS - MY YAHOO and there were NO ANSWERS to speak of. Community Support Team? Forget about it. And the Yahoo Admin guy must have failed basic English. With all due respect, he meant to say "your," not "you're" (a contraction of "you are"). So typical of Yahoo.

Don't count on Yahoo to fix any problems with the New My Yahoo. I think they see it as a "non-core" product and just want to abandon it. Notice how the graphics on My Yahoo (bad) compare with the snappy stuff on Weather and Stocks? They didn't expend much energy on the redesign and reprogramming, and they are not going to. End of story. Too bad, if you ask me.

This is the Feedback section. But there is also an entirely separate Suggestions section (go to upper right corner of the home page, hover over the gear-thingy, and drag the pointer to "Suggestions"), then right click. Feedback and Suggestions have entirely different (but every bit as vociferous anti-new My Yahoo) comments. As I write this there are 4,943 Feedbacks under "My Yahoo" here, and another 3,541 comments in the Suggestions section. Dunno why Yahoo would do this. As someone else suggested, we ought to try to aggregate all our comments in one place. But with so many different subjects I don't see how. You should check both (and comment on both) regularly.

It's so amazing that Yahoo Product Support (Admin, Yahoo) responds. What a cool idea - feedback from Yahoo. Now only if someone would do likewise over on the My Yahoo forums, maybe your loyal users would feel like they are being listened to, and that their views are important.

Configured My MSN and Netvibes and am ready to switch to one of the other when Yahoo pulls the plug on My Yahoo Classic. Not happy about it, and the features I have on Yahoo are not fully replicated on the other sites, but what's a fella to do, eh?

    Anonymous commented  ·

Try My MSN. It might have more flexibility than Netvibes (which I haven't played with much).

I tried My MSN and was able to customize the my page to almost replicate my My Yahoo (classic) page. You have good control over content and layout. Lots of stuff to choose from - several categories that include sources like AP, Reuters, NY Times, Fox Sports, and more. In terms of layout, you can choose a dozen or so column setups. And there are like four color schemes. Fonts are smallish, but quite readable. So far I haven't been able to set up a personalized stock portfolio or more than one weather location (but at least it's the right one). Try it, maybe you'll like it.

    Anonymous commented  ·

I'm back. No calmer though. Yahoo is getting this stuff from Storify, which has a mission of: "Collect media from across the web, Publish on Storify, embed anywhere, and Share and notify sources, go viral." Go to their home page to see for yourself: http://storify.com.

I've been in broadcast journalism for 45 years. This is not news gathering. This is glomming on to reports from lots of sources, many of which may be patently unreliable, inaccurate, or promotional in nature. AAAHHHHHH!

    Anonymous commented  ·

Now I'm losing my patience with these guys. On My Yahoo page "Latest News and Headlines" I clicked on an item "Live Coverage: Lawmakers reach budget deal." That brought up a whole page of story headlines, not just the one article I was interested in reading. Clicking on the new "Lawmakers reach budget deal" headline took me to a page I'd never seen before called "Yahoo News" (with a giant logo and purple background taking up 1/3 of the page, for crying out loud).

The headline on the story itself did not match "Lawmakers reach budget deal." And as I read down I could see that what Yahoo was giving me was a series of short and, to me, meaningless, hour by hour updates. There was no story there. Let me repeat - there was no story there. I was misled and that ****** me off.

The page appears to come from Yahoo News itself (two reporters' names were listed: Olivier Knox and Chris Moody. I would be more inclined to trust news items from AP or Reuters or the New York Times. This is rinky-****. What do these idiots think they're doing? Ruining a perfectly great product. Yikes!

It's terrible! Terrible! Terrible! Marissa what the heck!?!

    Anonymous commented  ·

A number of you have shared your frustrations about the lack of response from the folks at Yahoo. The company says clearly that "we want you to know we’re doing more than just listening." First, I don't think any of us believe they are listening, and secondly, if they were, they'd acknowledge and address our complaints right here in the forum pages.

And, if they were really listening, they'd understand that what their corps of loyal, longtime users are asking for is flexibility in customizing the layout to meet our own, individual needs. I sure do wish they'd get the message.

Still, why **** off so many people? As Dale says below, "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

    Anonymous commented  ·

I don't exactly understand why Yahoo thinks we must have - like it or not - a "new experience."

My guess is that they want more control over content so they can steer us toward partner links and make more money.

If you read the few comments they've made at the head of this section of the feedback pages you can see that they're struggling with the code for the new My Yahoo app. My interpretation is that they have a faulty base code and they're trying to placate critics by adding stuff on top without fixing the underlying faults. If true, it's a recipe for disaster. Just look at the issues the Feds are having with the rollout of the ACA.

Yahoo: please leave well enough alone.

    Anonymous commented  ·

They're at it again. There's a link on my old My Yahoo telling me that the new My Yahoo is coming. I checked it out and it looks just like the one that we've all been complaining about these past few weeks. If the new version doesn't let me set up the layout exactly the way I want it, then it's time to move on.

I like my old My Yahoo. A lot. A whole lot, in fact. So, why change it? Leave it alone (pretty sure they won't do that, though) or let us old fogies continue to use the old version in perpetuity.

Long live my old My Yahoo!

    Anonymous commented  ·

The current message at the top of the Yahoo Uservoice page (as of 12:48 MDT 9/27/13) states:

“Our goal for My Yahoo is to give you a way to organize the web around your diverse set of interests. Your passion for My Yahoo inspires us to work hard to make it better everyday, and we’re just getting started. We’ve seen — and heard — the impassioned response about the revamped My Yahoo. You’ve shared lots of great feedback, and we want you to know we’re doing more than just listening.”

    [list of “improvements”]

“ Once these updates happen, we’ll let you know right here in this forum… and we’re not done yet – more improvements are on the way. So keep the feedback coming!”

With all due respect to Yahoo, I find this statement seriously disingenuous.

“We’re just getting started,” they say. Yikes! That’s a scary thought. And like so many of you have noted, why the heck roll out a barely functioning, barely beta, buggy-buggy new My Yahoo, especially without extensive testing?

“We’re doing more than just listening . . .” they say. Well, if that was the case they’d let us keep our old My Yahoo page, right?

“More improvements are on the way.” N-o-o-o-o-o-o!

    Anonymous commented  ·

Late this afternoon the orange "Make the all new My Yahoo your homepage" banner disappeared from my old and beloved My Yahoo and here, two hours later, has not reappeared. Maybe Yahoo is rethinking the switch. We can only hope.

Did anybody else lose the banner?

    Anonymous commented  ·

Someone suggested using iGoogle. So I went there and it looked very promising and I started getting excited, until . . . wait for it . . . until I read that iGoogle is being discontinued on November 1st. Not good. Not good. Yikes.

    Anonymous commented  ·

Yahoo would be smart to respond in some way to some of the very valid concerns users have posted on this page. It would show that they can be customer oriented. But their silence speaks volumes.

I just tried to configure Bing and Google in ways similar to my old My Yahoo page and it seems to be impossible. Really frustrating. Anybody got any ideas?

    Anonymous commented  ·

Rich is right. There's a lot wrong with this new design. It's as if Yahoo is making this change for the sake of change, not because it's a better product. And not being able to test it - to try configurations and colors and sizes - is a bad policy. Though I distinctly dislike what I see, I would like to have been given the opportunity to see if I could fix things a way I might like them. Disappointing.

I went over to Google News and Bing and MSN and tried to configure those to my liking, but no go. Not enough flexibility in formatting. Anyone have any thoughts about other ways, sites, links?

    Anonymous commented  ·

After 12 years I'm ready to jump ship. If anyone finds another home page as good as the old Yahoo please post it here.
