I would say it's a spam. The grammar of that "notification" is not correct as it's in most scam letters. Also the sender, at least in my case, is just "Mail." Normal e-mails from yahoo came from the service e-mail and has the address visible as a sender.
And the last thing.. Yaho almost never asked us to update manually. They just update things :-)
Of course, with this issue having 1200 votes it would be nice to hear the official opinion/advice about those "update yahoo mail now" letters.
