posting comments
Why are my comments not being posted w.r.t. politics? I try to post the following
I am not going to speak regarding the credibility of a stanch (30+ year) independent, socialist changing affiliation pursuant to a run for the presidency. Not going to speak of the Senator’s voting record w.r.t. the war in Iraq as today anything other than affirmation shows disrespect for the families and soldiers who fought for us. It is particularly confusing to the children who lost parents that gave their life for the freedom we enjoy. I am not going to talk about how childish the Senator looks in a debate waving his hands above his head when former Secretary Clinton is speaking.
"Free" college education means that the government will eventually dictate what and where a student studies. Also, as is the case with K-12, the government will have an influence on what is taught. No society in the history of civilization surpasses that which is afforded in education within a democracy. Our forefathers favored democracy over socialism for good reason.
The US is a democracy with social “insurance type” programs to protect the disabled and elderly in contrast to say England which is a socialistic society with a few democratic precepts. In England a young person is tested at the age of about 13 which essentially determines their career path. Evident also is the fact that about 80% of the salary of the average wage earner in England is paid in taxes. There have been other governments that were wholly socialistic. Now which form of government has the better educational system, greatest military for protection, highest standard of living and has the utmost freedom? The distinction between a democracy and socialism is cavernous. Today in the US you are able to obtain a remarkable education at the public college of your choosing for about half the cost of a private college. Socialism ultimately denies freedom and diminishes individually; “She is a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.
With “insurance type” social programs, able bodied workers’ pay into a fund and over time collect which is effectively predictable. Obviously “Free” anything for the able bodied citizens requires the socialistic principle of redistribution of wealth. Today you are asking Senator Sanders for a "free" education; tomorrow you will be begging him for bread.
