Stop trying to be Idea Moderators and Restore the Comments Section
I am really angry at Yahoo beyond words for this ‘moratorium’ on comments. I would have wanted to post a comment on innumerable current events over the past two weeks, yet I was unable to do so because some prude at Verizon got their knickers in a knot over bad internet language while staying strangely silent over the erosion of American civil liberties by an obscene Trump administration. Most public school 5th grade teachers have the required skill set to moderate plucky kids effectively. Maybe Verizon should start sending their overpaid executive committee members to behavioral modification training seminars where they could learn some effective strategies for moderating forums rather than squelching free speech outright. I am left with a smug sense of contentment knowing though that this corporate opinion muffling will only hit Verizon where it hurts; in their advertising revenues. I for one will not be scanning as many breaking news articles enticed by the lure of reading what the general consensus of the day might be for the varied and sundry stories that capture my attention. The comments are usually amusing and insightful or at the very least barely tolerable pabulum, but always pure entertainment. If that factor is now absent and I am unable to post my opinion, you can bet I won’t be glancing at all those tacky ads tucked into the newsfeeds. Whoever has been calling the shots at Verizon must be cross-eyed because the company has been making all the wrong moves. Haven’t you learned anything from the Tumblr fiasco? Oath has gone limp. Now this. I guess I’m glad I have my phone service with AT&T.
