TO Ethan Alter: Senior Writer, Yahoo Entertainment
In this article, you refer to the character of Goose as Maverick's "wingman." You also refer to the character of Slider as Iceman's wingman. NO NO NO and NO! A wingman is another pilot who flies next to the element (two planes) leader, and helps watch his "six" (his back). What Goose and Slider were in Top Gun is "back seaters." In the Air Force, they're called "EWOs" (electronic warfare officers). In the Navy, they're called "RIOs" (radar intercept officers). Neither character (Goose or Slider) was a pilot, so they could NOT be "wingmen."
Please at least do some BASIC research before writing your articles. If I had done that type of sloppy work, I would've been flunked out of first year journalism in college.
