Waiting over 2 yrs to learn about a massive data breach
After decades with a yahoo email account for professional purposes, I just cancelled my paid service and will be finishing the move to Gmail. I don't understand how yahoo can wait over 2 years after such a massive data breach before notifying your customers. Had you notified your customers promptly and offered some proactive solutions & coverage, it might be forgivable. But you did nothing until you got caught (thanks to other news sources leaking the info about this leak). So now you're the poster child of abysmal data security and utter disregard for customers.
And I don't have kind words for yahoo when talking to my tech/IT associates, friends, or relatives.
Sorry if this sounds harsh but sensitive personal data was taken from Yahoo that is now out in the wild forever. In all honesty, I'm being far too kind.
And if an "idea" is required in this post, it would be for all other Yahoo users move to gmail or one of the secure email services as an alternative to yahoo. Also, cancel your accounts. Any personal data yahoo has for you will still be vulnerable to (ongoing) breaches but as the customer base goes down, the attractiveness of hackers to yahoo will decrease as well. Anyway, I'm doing my part.
